Honor Magic 7 RSR Porsche Design will join the Honor Magic 7 series soon. As we await the formal launch of the handset, its key specifications have surfaced online. The Honor Magic 7 RSR Porsche Design is tipped to feature a 6.8-inch display with 1.5K resolution and a triple rear camera unit comprising a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto sensor. The Honor Magic 7 RSR Porsche Design will launch as a successor to the Honor Porsche Design Magic 6 RSR.

As per a report by GizmoChina, Tipster Digital Chat Station (translated from Chinese) shared alleged specifications of the Honor Magic 7 RSR Porsche Design on Weibo. According to the report, it will come with a 6.8-inch LTPO display with a quad-curved design, 1.5K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate.

The Honor Magic 7 RSR Porsche Design is said to feature a triple rear camera setup, comprising a 50-megapixel OmniVision OV50K main sensor with a 1/1.3-inch variable aperture and OIS support. The camera unit could also include a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera and a 200-megapixel 3x periscope telephoto lens with a 1/1.4-inch sensor and OIS support.

For selfies and video chats, the Honor Magic 7 RSR Porsche Design is tipped to carry a 50-megapixel AON (Always-On) sensor and ToF 3D depth camera for facial recognition. It could run on Magic OS 9-based Android 15. It is said to support 100W wired and 80W wireless fast charging.

As per past rumours, the Honor Magic 7 RSR Porsche Design will have a 5,850mAh battery and IP68/IP69 rating for water and dust resistance. It is expected to offer dual satellite connectivity and pack up to 24GB RAM and up to 1TB storage.

The Honor Magic 7 RSR Porsche Design is confirmed to debut soon in China as a third entrant in the company’s Magic 7 series. The Honor Magic 7 and Magic 7 Pro with Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC were launched in the Chinese market last month. They feature triple rear camera units and 50-megapixel front cameras. They have IP68 and IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance and support 100W wired and 80W wireless fast charging.

State-sponsored Chinese hackers have infiltrated critical US infrastructure networks, the United States, its Western allies and Microsoft said Wednesday while warning that similar espionage attacks could be occurring globally.

Microsoft highlighted Guam, a US territory in the Pacific Ocean with a vital military outpost, as one of the targets, but said “malicious” activity had also been detected elsewhere in the United States.

It said the hacking, dubbed “Volt Typhoon”, had started in mid-2021 and was likely aimed at hampering the United States if there was conflict in the region.

“Microsoft assesses with moderate confidence that this Volt Typhoon campaign is pursuing development of capabilities that could disrupt critical communications infrastructure between the United States and Asia region during future crises,” the statement said.

“In this campaign, the affected organizations span the communications, manufacturing, utility, transportation, construction, maritime, government, information technology, and education sectors.

“Observed behavior suggests that the threat actor intends to perform espionage and maintain access without being detected for as long as possible.”

Microsoft’s statement coincided with an advisory released by US, Australian, Canadian, New Zealand and UK authorities.

They said a “state-sponsored cyber actor” from China was behind Volt Typhoon and that the hacking was likely occurring globally.

“This activity affects networks across US critical infrastructure sectors, and the authoring agencies believe the actor could apply the same techniques against these and other sectors worldwide,” the advisory said.

The United States and its allies said the activities involved “living off the land” tactics, which take advantage of built-in network tools to blend in with normal Windows systems.

It warned that the hacking could then incorporate legitimate system administration commands that appear “benign”.

-‘Highly sophisticated’- Microsoft said Volt Typhoon tried to blend into normal network activity by routing traffic through compromised small office and home office network equipment, including routers, firewalls and VPN hardware.

“They have also been observed using custom versions of open-source tools,” Microsoft said.

Microsoft and the security agencies released guidelines for organisations to try and detect and counter the hacking.

The director of the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, Jen Easterly, also released a warning related to Volt Typhoon.

“For years, China has conducted operations worldwide to steal intellectual property and sensitive data from critical infrastructure organizations around the globe,” Easterly said.

“Today’s advisory, put out in conjunction with our US and international partners, reflects how China is using highly sophisticated means to target our nation’s critical infrastructure.

“This joint advisory will give network defenders more insights into how to detect and mitigate this malicious activity.”

China offered no immediate response to the allegations. But it routinely denies carrying out state-sponsored cyber attacks.

China in turn regularly accuses the United States of cyber espionage.

While China and Russia have long targeted critical infrastructure, Volt Typhoon offered new insights into Chinese hacking, according to John Hultquist, chief analyst at US cybersecurity company Mandiant.

“Chinese cyberthreat actors are unique among their peers in that they have not regularly resorted to destructive and disruptive cyberattacks,” he said.

“As a result, their capability is quite opaque.This disclosure is a rare opportunity to investigate and prepare for this threat.”

MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset, which is scheduled for launch this month, is now confirmed to be optimised to handle on-device artificial intelligence (AI) tasks powered by the Gemini Nano model. On Monday, the chip maker announced that not only its upcoming flagship processor but also other Dimensity SoCs will support Google’s small language model designed for smartphone-based workflows. This means any smartphone equipped with compatible MediaTek Dimensity chips will be able to run the AI features being shipped to the Android operating system. So far, only Pixel devices and some Samsung Galaxy phones can access these features.

In a blog post, the chip maker confirmed that the upcoming MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset will be optimised to run Google’s in-house large language model for on-device tasks, Gemini Nano. For this, the company has integrated the eighth generation of its neural processing unit (NPU). The new NPU is geared to provide hardware acceleration for AI tasks involving text, image, and speech.

To offer this optimisation for Gemini Nano, MediaTek partnered with Google. The chip maker stated that the move not only reflects the company’s ongoing support for Google’s LLMs but also, “underscores the company’s commitment to expanding its Generative AI ecosystem and advancing Edge AI capabilities on Dimensity platforms.”

So far, Google has been shipping two types of AI features via its Android platform. First are the server-based features such as the Gemini virtual assistant on Android, Gemini in Messages, the recently introduced Ask Photos in Google Photos, and more. These are generally processed by larger Gemini models on the cloud.

The second tier of AI features are those which are processed either partially or entirely on-device. These would include Pixel-specific features such as live call transcription, text summary, image generation, and more. Circle to Search, which has also been added to Samsung’s smartphones, is another example of the same. These features are powered by Gemini Nano or similar models.

With more chipsets being optimised for Gemini Nano, it is likely that Google will also begin rolling out some of the Pixel-specific features to other Android smartphones. Notably, the Vivo X200 and Oppo Find X8 are rumoured to be the first smartphones to be equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset.

Baidu, the Chinese tech giant, reportedly announced two new artificial intelligence (AI) platforms on Tuesday. As per a report, the company introduced a text-to-image generator dubbed I-RAG and a no-code platform called Miaoda. The new AI platforms were said to be showcased at the Baidu World Conference, the company’s annual event. Additionally, the company also plans to launch new AI-integrated smart glasses. These glasses will be equipped with a dedicated AI assistant. The tech giant reportedly highlighted that after substantial research in the field, it now wants to commercialise its AI technology.

Baidu’s New AI Platforms

According to The Economic Times, the Chinese multinational company showcased new AI innovations at its conference. Among them is said to be I-RAG, the company’s native text-to-image generator. While Baidu entered the AI image generation game late, the company reportedly claimed that it used Baidu’s search engine capability to ensure the instances of hallucinations could be minimised.

Another innovation showcased by the company was a no-code platform dubbed Miaoda, as per the report. No-code platforms are used for software, website, and app creation, and they can be used by those who do not know how to write code. Such platforms use visual and interactive elements to help users design what they want, and they automate the coding process in the background.

With Miaoda, Baidu will reportedly allow users to develop software without coding skills. Users are said to be able to write a prompt about what they want and the AI can generate a prototype, which can further be edited and customised using prompts as well as visual editing tools.

Further, the company has announced its plans to launch AI-powered smart glasses in China next week. Like the Meta Ray-Ban, it will also come with an AI assistant that will help users in various real-life situations.

During the event, Baidu reportedly highlighted that its AI chatbot Ernie is handling 1.5 billion user queries per day, marking a steep rise from the 200 million daily requests reported in May. However, the company reportedly denied claims of launching an AI-powered super app and instead will focus on specialised tools.

Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, one of Konami’s worst-kept secrets, has finally been confirmed. During the PlayStation Showcase event, held early Thursday, publisher Konami dropped a cinematic trailer revealing the new title ‘Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater,’ promising a faithful recreation of the original Hideo Kojima game, while evolving the gameplay with modern visuals and a ‘seamless user experience.’ The kicker here is that, despite being a franchise that was strongly tied to Sony, the MGS3 will be available on PC (via Steam) and Xbox Series S/X as well. This marks the first actual entry to the franchise since Metal Gear Solid 5, which also marked Kojima’s departure from the company.

The trailer is a fully CGI-driven affair, featuring protagonist Naked Snake creeping about in the swamps and observing a deadly battle between an alligator and a massive serpent. Every other detail on the Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake was revealed in subsequent tweets from Konami, starting with the promise of faithfully sticking to the original narrative, which served as an origin arc for Naked Snake. A developer name was never mentioned, but a VGC report from 2021 claimed that external studio Virtuous — best known for support work on Horizon Zero Dawn and Uncharted 4 — was in charge. It’s strange that Konami simply refers to the studio as ‘Development Team’ instead of its actual name — wonder what that’s about.

As stated before, the remake is called Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater — pronounced Delta — denoting change or some difference without changing the core structure. “The Delta symbol (Δ) was chosen because its meaning fits the concept of the remake project.” The original PS2 game followed FOX operative Naked Snake, who was on a one-man sneaky mission to rescue a Russian weapon designer Nikolai Stepanovich Sokolov and sabotage an experimental, tank-like superweapon called the Shagohod. Gameplay largely revolved around stealth, introducing a camouflage ability that’s quite handy during the forest segments, and a hand-to-hand combat system called CQC (close-quarters combat).

In addition to co-writing the story, Kojima also served as the director of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, though it’s highly unlikely that he would be involved with the remake, following his bitter departure from Konami. The exit also ensured that his name was removed from all of the Metal Gear series’ marketing material, after which he re-established Kojima Productions as an independent studio. It will be interesting to see whether Kojima’s name is mentioned in any upcoming promo for the game, given Konami claims to be doing a ‘faithful’ reproduction. It’s his story, after all.

Additionally, Konami is also launching the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1, which includes the first three original games — Metal Gear: Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and the aforementioned Snake Eater. It is slated to release this fall/ autumn and marks the series’ return to the latest platforms (unspecified).

Honor X60 series will launch in China next week, the company has confirmed. However, Honor hasn’t provided any other details regarding the phones. The variants, their design, and specifications of the handsets have not yet been revealed. Meanwhile, rumours about the upcoming lineup have surfaced online. The vanilla Honor X60 is expected to succeed the Honor X50, which was launched in China in July 2023.

Honor X60 Features (Expected)

The base Honor X60 may get a 6.8-inch full-HD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate, as per a Weibo leak. The leak shows the “About” page of the purported smartphone. The phone appears with slim bezels and a centred hole-punch slot at the top.

As per the leak, the Honor X60 could be powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7025 SoC paired with 12GB of RAM. The phone will reportedly support an additional 12GB of virtual RAM expansion and 256GB of onboard storage. It will likely ship with Android 14-based MagicOS 8.

For optics, the Honor X60 may carry a 108-megapixel main rear camera sensor with an f/1.75 aperture. The front camera will likely be equipped with an 8-megapixel sensor with an f/2.0 aperture. This is similar to the camera setup on the Honor X50.

The battery and charging details of the Honor X60 will likely remain unchanged from the preceding model. It could carry a 5,800mAh battery with support for 35W wired fast charging. The upcoming phone may measure 8mm in thickness and weigh 189g.
