Secret OTT Release: Malayalam Thriller Starring Dhyan Sreenivasan to be Available on ManoramaMAX


Secret, the Malayalam psychological thriller directed by S.N. Swamy, is set to make its OTT debut. The film, which hit theatres on July 26, 2024, garnered a mixed response during its theatrical release. Microsoft Considered Buying Nintendo at One Point, Court Documents Reveal; Unannounced Bethesda Games Leaked


Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer considered buying Nintendo at one point, a leaked 2020 email revealed. Multiple documents from Microsoft’s trial with the US FTC were leaked Tuesday, with one showing a casual discussion about buying the Mario maker, where Spencer called it a “career moment” and implied that a collaboration would be a ‘good move’ for either company. It’s worth highlighting that this conversation happened in August 2020, before Microsoft acquired Bethesda’s parent company ZeniMax Media for $7.5 billion (about Rs. 62,431 crore). The leaks also disclosed Bethesda’s release schedule, alongside details for Microsoft’s planned mid-generation console refresh.

“I’ve had numerous conversations with the LT of Nintendo about tighter collaboration and feel like if any US company would have a chance with Nintendo, we are probably in the best position,” Spencer responded to Microsoft executives Chris Capossela and Takeshi Numoto in the email (via The Verge). He then went on to list some hurdles in the acquisition, starting with Nintendo happily sitting on a ‘big pile of cash,’ which makes any hostile buyout moves futile. He claimed that it’s taking a long time for Nintendo to realise that their games would flourish better if they weren’t just exclusive to their own platform. In the same email, Spencer also touched upon acquiring Valve Corporation — whose president Gabe Newell previously worked at Microsoft — noting that Microsoft’s board of directors would be fully supportive if some positive actions arise.

In addition to ZeniMax, it would seem that Microsoft was actively engaged in buyout discussions with Warner Bros. Interactive, which published Hogwarts Legacy, earlier this year. However, that interaction raised issues about IP ownership — as in, Microsoft wouldn’t hold the rights to DC Comics characters and such, in turn hurting “long-term flexibility.” Meanwhile, with ZeniMax, the issue was more money-based, in the sense of what its founders were expecting from the acquisition.

The leaked documents also revealed a list of unannounced Bethesda games, which include remasters for Fallout 3 and the Cyrodiil-set open-world RPG The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. The chart of planned titles was put together in July 2020, and as such, there are several changes in the launch timelines. The Oblivion remaster was originally slated to release in 2022, but the only update we’ve heard so far stemmed from a rumour claiming that Virtuous Games was working on it. That studio is currently co-developing the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake with Konami. The Fallout 3 remaster was planned for next year, and the list obviously mentions a Starfield DLC for 2022. Of course, the game got delayed and so the timelines drastically differ now.

According to the chart, the long-gestating Elder Scrolls VI was initially eyeing a 2024 launch. But it just recently entered the early development phase and isn’t expected to release until 2026 on PC and Xbox. Other major releases on the horizon include the Indiana Jones game from MachineGames, a Ghostwire: Tokyo sequel, and Dishonored 3, marking Arkane’s return to the stealth franchise following Deathloop and the poorly-received Redfall.

Yesterday, the team wrapped up the first schedule of the Dheeraj Rattan-directed rom-com in Australia. To Ahluwalia, her maiden film is all about “learning and growing,” and to do that against the scenic backdrop of Melbourne has been pure bliss, she says. “Melbourne’s vibrant backdrop perfectly complements our action-packed narrative. Shooting here felt like a dream—it has a mix of urban charm and natural beauty. Despite the rigorous schedule, the team was always excited because the city has so much to offer,” states the actor, who is looking forward to the December schedule Down Under.  

One’s maiden film can be both an exhilarating as well as daunting affair. Ahluwalia credits her co-star and producer Randhawa for guiding her through the experience. The actor, recently seen in Khatron Ke Khiladi 14, adds, “Guru is a powerhouse of talent, not just as a singer-actor, but also as a producer. His involvement in every aspect of the film made it feel like a passion project.”

Samsung’s foldable lineup usually includes one new book-style Galaxy Z Fold and one flip-style Galaxy Z Flip per year. This year the South Korean smartphone brand changed this practice by launching Galaxy Z Fold 6 in July and a new Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition in October as a slimmer and lighter version of the regular model. A new report now suggests that Samsung will unveil two variants of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 next year. The standard model is said to have codename Q7.

Two Galaxy Z Fold 7 Variants Could Be in the Works

As per a report by Galaxyclub, Samsung is currently working on two variants of the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is said to be in development with codename B7, while the Galaxy Z Fold 7 has the codename Q7. In addition to these two codenames, the brand is reportedly working on a third Q7M model, which could be the second variant of the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

The report claims that the development of the Q7M is running parallel to that of the regular Q7, suggesting that the Fold will not break cover in early 2025. This rumoured Galaxy Z Fold 7 variant could either be another Special Edition or it could also be the rumoured tri-fold phone.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition debuted in South Korea this month. It features a lighter and thinner build than the standard Galaxy Z Fold 6 while maintaining the same internal specifications. It was unveiled with a price tag of KRW 2,789,600 (roughly Rs. 1,70,000) for the single 16GB RAM + 512GB storage configuration.

Like the standard model, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition runs on Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy processor and carries a 200-megapixel rear camera unit. It has an 8-inch internal screen and a 6.5-inch external screen.

It’s already the time of the year to get-together as families and enjoy the upcoming Christmas season …or that is what Tyler Taorima’s film would have you believe. This film is neither a romance, a light-hearted comedy nor an emotional drama. It lies somewhere in between, unrealised in its potential, just waffling along suffused with seasonal gaiety and family dynamics.
 
On Christmas Eve, the Balsano family gathers for what could be the last holiday in their ancestral home. There are no stars to power this, no familiar faces even, so it feels like we are watching a home video about a family coming together to celebrate Christmas. 
 
Set in the 1970’s, the large family Christmas gathering is happening in Millers Point, Long Island. Family members from all corners keep trickling in. We get to know whatever little bits of story there are from the conversations we hear. There are heated discussions about whether the family matriarch needs to be moved to an assisted living facility, if not who should take on the responsibility for her care, whether or not the family home should be sold, etc. The members all try to put their points across. There’s jostling around, joking, secrets, grudges, teens playing truant, a table load of food and sweets being prepared, gifts being carried over to the Christmas tree, rushing outside for the annual Christmas parade, caroling etc. That’s the usual stressful Christmas stuff. 
 
The kids have their bits of fun with a player piano, a pet iguana, an electric train, video games, and their dozing grandma on a chairlift being sent up and down just to keep her and themselves entertained.Some of the men escape to the garage for a cold beer, one uncle plays the piano and blasts out a Christmas carol, another uncle cooks up a storm and wants everyone willing to listen, to know how he does it. Another uncle sits with the kids and regales them with stories, yet another uncle, a budding writer, gets outed when his draft story gets read out aloud, some are watching home movies and some others are guessing and opening Christmas presents. Outside we see two goofy cops (Michael Cera, Greg Turkington), trying to pull off a comedy routine – which is way too obvious and unfunny. The narrative is teeming with people and a lot of talk but in actuality there’s nothing really dramatic happening here. We don’t know who is related to whom? Too many characters and too little involvement from the audience can ring the death-knell for a movie experience. You can see that the family members are having their own brand of fun but the audience feels alienated from it all. 
 
This is a strange, unconventional film that sits somewhere between a docudrama and a home video. Cinematographer Carson Lund lends a retro look and feel, the soundtrack is filled with 1960’s music – not the regular familiar Christmas tunes, and the writing doesn’t go beyond what is obvious. This film manages to capture the chaos of family gatherings well…but what`s the point you may well ask?  
 
There’s no driving central narrative, no main character to root for, the camera just glides around capturing faces and spurts of conversation. There’s no room for the audience to get involved in any of the conversations or emotions. It all feels rather alien and uninviting. The best that can be said about this film is that it gets the aesthetics, ambience and mood right. There’s nothing else to it!

MS Paint Updated With Support for Layers, Editing Transparent Images: Details


MS Paint — also known as Microsoft Paint — is getting updated with two new image editing features that will allow users to edit images more effectively using Microsoft’s free graphics manipulation tool. Users will be able to edit images using layers, similar to Adobe’s widely used Photoshop software. MS Paint will also allow users to work with transparent images and save them once they are edited. the features are expected to roll out to all users running Windows 11 at a later date.

In a recent Windows Insider blog post, Microsoft announced that the company’s nearly 40-year-old computer program will be updated with support for layers. Users will be able to “add, remove, and manage layers on the canvas,” according to the company. These layers can be hidden at will, allowing users to work on them without affecting the content of other layers.

Just like other image manipulation tools like Photoshop and the open-source GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP), layers are also visible in the order they are placed in. Digital elements on each layer can then be organised or adjusted in such a way that they appear behind other elements in the image. Microsoft’s blog post provides an example of an image with pixel-style artwork depicting a cat with five layers including a yellow background.

Another important feature that has made its way to MS Paint is transparency support. Users will now be able to open and edit transparent images (like PNGs) on the application, which will show a duotone checkerboard pattern as the background for parts of the image that are transparent.

With the new transparency support MS Paint’s eraser tool can also remove the background selectively, making it transparent. When the image is ready to be saved, Paint will save it as a PNG file with the transparency — the application previously saved the image after filling the transparent areas with a white background.

There’s no word on when layers and transparency support will make its way to all users on Windows 11 — Microsoft is currently trialling the new functionality with Windows Insider testers on the Canary and Dev channels on version 11.2308.18.0 or newer. The company is expected to roll out the features to all users once testing is concluded.

Mumbai: Actor Suhana Khan, daughter of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan, penned a sweet birthday wish for her ‘The Archies’ co-star Agastya Nanda.

Taking to Instagram Story, Suhana posted a picture showcasing her and Agastya in a goofy mood. Suhana could be seen pulling Agastya’s ear.

Suhana looks gorgeous in a black tube dress, while Agastya is seen in a black shirt and a white jacket. Sharing the picture, she wrote, “Happy birthday.”

Suhana and Agastya are rumoured to be dating each other. However, they have not disclosed anything about their bond.

Agastya’s sister and entrepreneur Navya Naveli Nanda also posted a special birthday message for him. She shared a collage of their pictures together.

The first one was a childhood picture in which Navya held her brother in her lap. The other picture shows the brother and sister recreating the same pose from their childhood.

“Happy birthday Jr! (red heart emoji) I love you,” she captioned the post.

Agastya is the grandson of veteran actors Jaya Bachchan and Amitabh Bachchan. He made his acting debut last year with Zoya Akhtar’s directorial ‘The Archies’.

In the coming months, he will be seen in the film ‘Ikkis’, which also stars legendary actor Dharmendra and Jaideep Ahlawat.

“Ikkis” is touted to be a war drama based on the life of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal. He was awarded Param Vir Chakra posthumously and lived an exemplary life.

Helmed by Sriram Raghavan, the film will release in 2025. It is being made under Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films.
