Intel Xeon 6 processors were launched at AMD’s annual Computex event as the company shared details of its AI strategy. Like Nvidia, Asus, and other participants at the event, the chipmaker also introduced its AI-led portfolio including new hardware, data centre innovation, and AI accelerators to power servers with AI handling capabilities. Notably, the company also shared details about its Lunar Lake Platform and explained how the architecture will bolster AI PCs. Intel also revealed the pricing for its Gaudi 2 and Gaudi 3 AI accelerators.

Intel Shares Details of Lunar Lake Architecture

To power the next wave of AI PCs, Intel announced its Lunar Lake CPUs as the successor to Meteor Lake chipsets last month. During the ongoing Computex event, the chipmaker shared more details about its architecture.

There is a new system-on-chip design which the company claims triples the size and offers more than four times the performance of its AI accelerator. It is also claimed to provide up to 14 percent faster CPU performance, 50 percent higher graphics performance, and up to 60 percent better battery efficiency compared to its predecessor.

The Lunar Lake processors feature a fourth-generation Neural Processing Unit (NPU) capable of handling up to 48 tera-operations per second (TOPS) of AI performance. A new GPU design, codenamed Battlemage, significantly improves gaming and graphics performance and offers up to 67 TOPS of performance in AI content creations.

Other notable changes include an integrated 16 of 32GB of LPDDR5X memory into the system instead of a separate memory stick. This means there is no option to connect more RAM.

Intel Xeon 6 processors launched

Just six months after launching the 5th generation Intel Xeon processors, the tech giant is now introducing the first Xeon 6 chipsets including the Xeon 6 E-core and the Xeon 6 P-core. Also known as Efficient-core, the Intel Xeon 6 E-core is designed to deliver AI-focused performance with lower power consumption.

The P-core, on the other hand, offers higher performance outputs. These processors are meant for data centres to power server-based AI features and AI computing for devices.

The Intel Xeon 6 E-core processors are now available to purchase and the company will launch the Xeon 6 P-core processors in the third quarter of the year. The prices were not disclosed.

Intel Gaudi 2, Gaudi 3 AI accelerator kits price revealed

Intel also shared pricing details of its Gaudi 2 and Gaudi 3 AI accelerator kits, which the company has positioned as an alternative to Nvidia’s H100 chips. Aimed at customers with heavy AI workflows, these AI accelerators are said to provide performance improvements for training and inference tasks for major open-source AI models.

As per the company, the Intel Gaudi 3 is a cluster of 8,192 accelerators that offer up to 40 percent faster time-to-train AI models compared to the H100 GPU clusters. The company found the numbers running tests to train the Llama-2 70B AI model. Intel says the inferencing is also faster with its accelerators.

The standard AI kit with eight Intel Gaudi 2 accelerators and a universal baseboard (UBB) will be offered to system providers for the price of $65,000 (roughly Rs. 54,33,100). The Intel Gaudi 3 with a similar setup will be available for $125,000 (roughly Rs. 10,448,200).

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth features the biggest map in the Yakuza franchise. Marking the series’ first venture outside of Japan, the upcoming title will transport players to the tourist hotspot of Hawaii — Honolulu City, to be exact. Developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio claims that the vast new stage is more than three times the size of Yakuza: Like a Dragon’s Isezaki Ijincho, the suburb where the afro-haired Kasuga Ichiban was introduced. That means, the Hawaii map is nearly nine times the size of the Kamurocho district, the series’ primary Japanese setting punctuated by shops, restaurants, and nightclubs, where we dabbled in action-packed illicit acts through the eyes of Kazuma Kiryu, the series’ main protagonist who keeps getting pulled back into the life of crime.

As part of the announcement, RGG Studio revealed some key locations worth visiting in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, starting with Aloha Beach, the lively sun-baked shoreline where players can even head out swimming. Then there’s the Anaconda Shopping Center for Yakuza fans to fulfil their arcade gaming needs and grab a quick snack, followed by the bustling Chinatown area that’s lush with steaming food stalls, markets, and the Nirvana Bank Hotel, where only the wealthiest folk dwell. As a revered tourist location, the Waiki Town area is the place to go to buy souvenirs, District 5 to engage with the local mafia, and Little Japan is the spot for delectable sushi for when our heroes feel homesick. Yep, we’ve got two protagonists this time, as Ichiban Kasuga is sent to Hawaii under the promise of reuniting with his mother, only to meet with Kazuma Kiryu, who challenges him to a ‘final battle.’

A story trailer from September revealed that Kiryu had been battling cancer, in addition to dealing with the complexities of old age. In a way, it seems like RGG Studio is retiring Kiryu from the lead role, which also explains why the new age of Yakuza games were rebranded as ‘Like a Dragon’ in the West. As such, the gameplay also witnessed a huge transition, going from the overexaggerated real-time action combat to a turn-based affair, akin to the Persona series of games. As usual, anything goes in these battles, so feel free to use environmental objects as your weapon, such as a car battery to electrocute foes, summon muscley Poundmates to pummel enemies, blast them with a car crash, and even pull off cinematic tag-team moves. And of course, food items grant temporary stat bonuses for when you’re in a pickle.

Hoverbikes to traverse the streets, pizza delivery minigames, and Karaoke sessions are also part of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. RGG Studio head Masayoshi Yokoyama described the title as a ‘monster class’ of a game, adding that if one were to play it continuously, they’d get sick. “This means that a lot of people are going to hesitate to play the game or will end up having it wait on their shelves. I found the possibility of that kind of outcome sad, so I thought, we have to get everyone hyped up enough to play it,” he said in an interview. To combat that, the studio opted for a festival-like atmosphere, which he believes would urge players to finish it within a week to a month, ‘even at the cost of their health.’

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is out January 25 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X.

Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z series foldables, Galaxy Ring and more this year with several more expected from the brand in 2025. During its latest earnings announcement, Samsung offered a glimpse into its product roadmap for the next year. The South Korean smartphone giant confirmed that the much-awaited Galaxy S25 series will launch in the first half of 2025. It will also reveal its long-awaited XR device soon. Additionally, Samsung appears to be exploring ways to bring affordable foldable smartphones to the market.

Samsung Galaxy S25 to Land in the First Half of 2025

In its latest earning announcement, Samsung teased plans for 2025. The company confirmed that its MX (Mobile experience) department plans to pursue sales growth and profitability improvement centered on flagships such as the Galaxy S25 series and foldables, while also expanding sales of ecosystem products such as the Galaxy Tab, Galaxy Book, and wearables. Samsung says the Galaxy S25 series will be launched ” in the first half of next year” with Galaxy AI features.

Samsung usually releases its non-foldable flagships in either January or February, so the Galaxy S25 models are expected to hit shelves the same time next year. The current Galaxy S24 lineup was unveiled in January 2024.

Moreover, Samsung said that its XR (eXtended Reality) device is “scheduled to be launched in the future”. With this, the MX division is eyeing to contribute to the expansion of the Samsung Health ecosystem through the Galaxy Ring launched this year and to strengthen the connectivity experience between our products. The XR device is expected to debut sometime next year.

Additionally, an X user Jukanlosreve (@Jukanlosreve), citing Samsung’s conference call, posted that the company is looking to bring a budget-friendly foldable smartphone. The post reads “We are considering ways to lower entry barriers so that more customers can actually experience foldable products, given the high satisfaction among existing foldable users,” hinting at the development of cheaper foldable offerings.

Asus announced a refreshed version of its ROG Zephyrus G16 gaming laptop at the ongoing Computex 2024 on Tuesday. Under the hood, the laptop now gets the recently launched AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 processor with an in-built Neural Processing Unit (NPU) and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. Asus says the refreshed ROG Zephyrus G16 (2024) is a “true AI PC” and is equipped to deal with AI-enabled applications.

The refreshed Asus ROG Zephyrus G16 (2024) comes with a 16-inch OLED display with a 2.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. In a blog post, Asus announced that the laptop is equipped with ​G-Sync technology and supports Dolby Vision HDR. It also gets a MUX Switch, enabling the user to choose between different GPU performance modes.

It now gets an AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 chip under the hood, paired with Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 mobile GPU, 32GB LPDDR5X RAM, and 2TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD storage. Being an AI PC, it features a dedicated Copilot key along with its AI functions (in preview). In total, it promises to deliver up to 402 TOPS AI processing power — 31 TOPS CPU and iGPU, 50 TOPS (NPU), and up to 321 TOPS (GPU).

The laptop has a ​4-speaker system and supports Dolby Atmos. It also gets ​AI noise-cancelling technology and ​Hi-Res certification for headphone users. Asus says the refreshed ROG Zephyrus G16 (2024) is Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 enabled. There is also a 1080p full-HD IR camera with Windows Hello support.

In terms of connectivity, it comes with USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A and Type-C ports, as well as a single USB 4 Type-C port. There is also a dedicated 3.5mm headphone jack, an HDMI 2.1 port, and an SD card reader. It is backed by a 90Wh 4-cell Li-ion battery and can be charged with a 200W adapter.

The Asus ROG Zephyrus G16 (2024) measures 35.4cm x 24.6cm x 1.49cm in dimensions and weighs 1.85kg.

India’s Tata Electronics has agreed to buy a majority stake in Taiwanese contract manufacturer Pegatron’s only iPhone plant in India, forming a new joint venture that strengthens Tata’s position as an Apple supplier, two sources told Reuters.

Under the deal announced internally last week, Tata will hold 60 percent and run daily operations under the joint venture, while Pegatron will hold the rest and provide technical support, said the two sources, who declined to be named as the details are not yet public.

The sources did not elaborate on the financials of the deal.

Tata declined to comment, while Apple and Pegatron did not respond to Reuters queries on Sunday.

Reuters was first to report in April that Pegatron had the backing of Apple and was holding advanced talks to sell its only iPhone plant in India to Tata, marking the Taiwanese firm’s latest scale back of its Apple partnership.

Apple is increasingly looking to diversify its supply chain beyond China amid geopolitical tensions between Beijing and Washington. For India’s Tata, the Chennai Pegatron plant will bolster its iPhone manufacturing plans.

Tata is one of the largest conglomerates in India and has been fast expanding into iPhone manufacturing, rivaling the only other iPhone contract manufacturer operating in India, Foxconn.

The announcement for the deal’s closure was made internally at the iPhone plant on Friday, said the first source.

The second source said the two companies plan to file for an approval of the Competition Commission of India (CCI) in the coming days.

Tata already operates an iPhone assembly plant in the southern state of Karnataka, which it took over from Taiwan’s Wistron last year. It is also building another in Hosur in Tamil Nadu, where it also has an iPhone component plant which was involved in a fire incident in September.

Analysts estimate India will contribute 20-25 percent of total iPhone shipments this year, from 12-14 percent last year.

The Tata-Pegatron plant, which has around 10,000 employees and makes 5 million iPhones annually, will be Tata’s third iPhone factory in India.

Amazon.com on Tuesday announced a new artificial intelligence chip for its cloud computing service as competition with Microsoft to dominate the market for artificial intelligence heats up.

At a conference in Las Vegas, Amazon Web Services (AWS) Chief Executive Adam Selipsky announced Trainium2, the second generation of chip designed for training AI systems. Selipsky said the new version is four times as fast as its predecessor while being twice as energy efficient.

The AWS move comes weeks after Microsoft announced its own AI chip called Maia. The Trainium2 chip will also compete against AI chips from Alphabet‘s Google, which has offered its Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) to its cloud computing customers since 2018.

Selipsky said that AWS will start offering the new training chips next year. The proliferation of custom chips comes amid a scramble to find the computing power to develop technologies such as large language models that form the basis of services similar to ChatGPT.

The cloud computing firms are offering their chips as a complement to Nvidia, the market leader in AI chips whose products have been in short supply for the past year. AWS also on Tuesday said that it will offer Nvidia’s newest chips on its cloud service.

Selipsky on Tuesday also announced Graviton4, the cloud firm’s fourth custom central processor chip, which it said is 30 percent faster than its predecessor. The news comes weeks after Microsoft announced its own custom chip called Cobalt designed to compete with Amazon’s Graviton series.

Both AWS and Microsoft are using technology from Arm in their chips, part of an ongoing trend away from chips made by Intel and Advanced Micro Devices in cloud computing. Oracle is using chips from startup Ampere Computing for its cloud service.

OnePlus 13 was launched in China on Thursday as the company’s latest flagship smartphone. It is one of the first handsets to arrive with the new Snapdragon 8 Elite chip from Qualcomm, and it equipped with up to 24GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage. OnePlus has equipped the new smartphone with a 6.82-inch AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. It also features a 50-megapixel triple rear camera setup that is tuned by Hasselblad. The OnePlus 13 runs on ColorOS 15, which is based on Android 15, while the global model will arrive with OxygenOS 15.

OnePlus 13 Price, Availability

OnePlus 13 price is set at CNY 4,499 (roughly Rs. 53,100) for the base model with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, while the 12GB+512GB model costs CNY 4,899 (roughly Rs. 57,900). Meanwhile, the price of the 16GB+512GB is set at CNY 5,299 (roughly Rs. 62,600), while the top-of-the-line model with 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage will be available for CNY 5,999 (roughly Rs. 70,900).

Customers in China can pre-order the smartphone via the company’s website, and the handset will go on sale on November 1. It will be available in Blue (leather), Obsidian (glass), and White (glass) colourways. OnePlus is also expected to launch the smartphone in global markets, including India.

OnePlus 13 Specifications, Features

The dual-SIM (Nano+Nano) OnePlus 13 runs on Android 15-based ColorOS 15 and sports a 6.82-inch Quad-HD+ (1440×3168 pixels) LTPO AMOLED screen produced by BOE with a refresh rate that ranges between 1Hz-120Hz, a peak brightness level of 4,500 nits, and Dolby Vision support. The display also supports 2,160Hz pulse-width modulation when the handset is used in low light scenarios.

OnePlus has equipped the smartphone with a Snapdragon 8 Elite chip and an Adreno 830 GPU, paired with up to 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM. You get up to 1TB of UFS 4.0 inbuilt storage on the OnePlus 13, and it can’t be expanded via a storage card.

Like its predecessor, the OnePlus 13 is equipped with a triple rear camera setup that is tuned by Hasselblad. It comprises a 50-megapxiel primary camera with OIS and an f/1.6 aperture, a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera with an f/2.2 aperture, and a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera (3x optical, 6x in-sensor, 120x digital) with OIS and an f/2.6 aperture. On the front, there’s a 32-megapixel camera with an f/2.4 aperture.

The handset is equipped with dual stereo speakers and four microphones. Connectivity options on the OnePlus 13 include 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, dual band GPS, and a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C port. It features a proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, colour temperature sensor, e-compass, accelerometer, gyroscope, hall sensor, laser focus sensor, and a spectral sensor.

There’s an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner under the display of the OnePlus 13, for biometric authentication. It packs a 6,000mAh battery with 100W Flash Charge (wired) and 50W Flash Charge (wireless) support. The handset also supports reverse wired (5W) and reverse wireless (10W) charging.

The OnePlus 13 has an infrared (IR) transmitter, which can be used to control appliances. It has IP68 and IP69 certifications for dust and water resistance. The OnePlus 13 measures 162.9×76.5×8.9mm and weighs 210g (leather finish) while the glass finish has a thickness of 8.5mm and weighs 213g.
