Microsoft has made the surprising decision to end support for Windows Subsytem for Android (WSA), a virtual machine that allowed it to bring Android apps to Windows 11 through the Amazon Appstore marketplace. The tech giant first gained the official support for the mobile apps through a deal with Amazon in 2021, and ever since then it has regularly updated the platform. As per the announcement, Windows 11 users will not be able to use Android apps after March 5, 2025.
The announcement was made by Microsoft via a note labeled as “Important” on the Windows Subsystem for Android web page on March 5, 2024. The company highlighted that after the given date next year, Amazon Appstore on Windows and all applications and games dependent on WSA will no longer be supported. “Until then, technical support will remain available to customers. Customers that have installed the Amazon Appstore or Android apps prior to March 5, 2024, will continue to have access to those apps through the deprecation date of March 5, 2025,” it added.
Additionally, Amazon also posted an update for developers explaining how the development will impact them and important dates for them to note. According to the ecommerce giant, developers will not be able to submit new apps any more. This was put into effect on Tuesday. However, those developers who already have an app can continue to provide updates and support till the discontinuation date in 2025.
Users can continue to use any pre-installed apps for the next year till March 5, 2025. However, downloading and installing new apps is not possible. The Amazon Appstore and any associated Android apps on Microsoft Store will not be searchable on Windows 11 either. The surprise move comes just three years after Microsoft first introduced WSA. While the company did not mention any reason for the decision, a report by Ars Technica has highlighted that Android app users on Windows 11 were quite low.
The report mentions that this was because Microsoft could not make a deal with Google and instead onboarded Amazon Appstore, which has a much smaller selection of apps compared to Play Store. Further, most major app developers already provide either a web-based interface or a Windows app separately. These reasons could have resulted in WSA and native Android apps never catching on in popularity.

Why Should One Use Copilot Over ChatGPT?
Currently, the free version of Copilot is powered by GPT-4, and the paid Copilot Pro is powered by GPT-4 Turbo. In contrast, OpenAI’s in-house AI chatbot ChatGPT offers access to its latest flagship model, GPT-4 Omni (or GPT-4o). So, when users can get a faster and more powerful AI tool in the latter, why would they opt for Copilot? “The biggest advantage when you use Copilot is that it is embedded into your applications. The work that I get done throughout the day is in my mail, chat, PowerPoint, and Word document. That is only possible with Copilot,” explained Bhatia.

In simple terms, Copilot is not just a standalone chatbot. The tech giant has embedded AI capabilities within its Microsoft 365 apps, Teams, and Paint, while certain features are accessible all across the OS.
“Without leaving my application, I can get my work done. It saves me time and ensures it understands the context of my query. This capability is only available when you work with Copilot. It is not about searching for something on the web. It is about having that in your application and knowing the context of how you’re operating with the backdrop of all the information on your device,” added Bhatia.
How Can the End User Make the Most Out of Copilot-Powered AI PCs
Another issue that can be a hurdle in the adoption of AI PCs is the lack of awareness among users on the capabilities of generative AI. While most know that an AI chatbot can have conversations, answer queries, and even generate images, they don’t know how to integrate it into their daily tasks to get more out of the technology.
“The power of AI impacts all walks of your life. It could be across your personal or work engagements. It could be as simple as planning a vacation or asking the AI if I have forgotten any of my tasks before closing for the day. It can analyse, summarise, and create documents; it can create replies to emails with the right tonality, and more,” said Bhatia, answering the question.
To break it down, Copilot is available on Word, where it can analyse and summarise the document. It can also create documents with simple text prompts. The AI can also generate a full-scale presentation via PowerPoint and write email replies. What Microsoft is offering is an assistant in all of its apps to minimise the labour-intensive work, so users can focus on tasks that need their attention.
“Whether you are discovering, aggregating, or creating, Copilot can help with all three and impact both your work and play. Copilot has the capability of truly becoming your buddy and companion to boost your day-to-day productivity,” Bhatia added.

Getting the AI to do your work is a lucrative proposition. However, many times, it simply refuses to generate what you need. Many times, the AI might get one-half of the prompt right while completely ignoring the other half. Or, it might fetch the right information but present it in the wrong format. Put simply, it can be frustrating to create the perfect text prompt that the AI can understand to generate the right response.
“Never worry about getting the prompt right because you can always ask it a follow-up question. However, being very clear, categorical, and specific in your prompts will give you the output faster,” Bhatia explained.

Microsoft Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 could debut later this month, as per a new report. The tech giant was rumoured to be working on its first artificial intelligence (AI)-powered PCs that could be integrated with the AI features expected to be rolled out to Windows 11 later this year. The Microsoft PCs are said to be launched with both Intel’s latest 14th-generation and Qualcomm X series chipsets. They are also expected to feature next-gen neural processing unit (NPU).
Citing unnamed sources in a report, Windows Central claimed that both Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 could be launched on March 21. The first AI PCs by Microsoft are also reported to be equipped with both new Intel Core Ultra and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite-based chips. If true, this will be the first time that Microsoft ships its Surface Laptop with both Intel and Arm processor options.
While not a lot is known about the upcoming laptops, the report mentions some of its key specifications. The Microsoft Surface Pro 10 could feature an anti-reflective and brighter OLED panel with support for HDR content. It is also said to come with a new webcam with an ultrawide sensor. The webcam could be boosted with AI Studio Effects that will arrive later this year, and an inbuilt NFC reader. Its design is likely to remain the same as its predecessor.
Surface Laptop 6, on the other hand, could get some design upgrades. It is reported to feature thinner bezels with rounded corners for the display and a new haptic touchpad. Additionally, Microsoft announced a dedicated Copilot key to feature in Windows laptops last year, and the laptop is expected to get it. The Laptop 6 is also said to bring a new set of ports including two USB Type-C ports and one USB Type-A port on the left side, and the magnetic Surface Connect charger could be placed on the right.
Apart from this, both devices could get improved battery life and performance. The report claims that the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 could be made available in the market in two separate tranches. The first could be in April which will only include the Intel chip-powered models and the Arm models could arrive later in June.
