Actor Sheeba Sabir, who made her Bollywood comeback with Ranveer Singh-Alia Bhatt-starrer ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’ is hogging the limelight, courtesy of her seven adorable Shih Tzus. That being said, she gets candid in an interview with Mid-day.com about initially being approached for a liplock with veteran superstar Dharmendra in the Karan Johar directorial, and why it did not materialise.

Sheeba Sabir returned to the movies with ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’ which featured her in a cameo and included her iconic song ‘Aaja Meri Gaadi Me Baith Ja’. Speaking of her resuming work after staying away from the limelight for two decades, she says, “Rocky Rani… was kind of dipping my feet in the water situation. My kids are well settled now so I thought it was the time to work. I had begun sending feelers out that I would Like to do something. People like Karan Johar have a great knowledge of cinema. So it`s not as if he is like one of those new executives who will say, ‘Sheeba? Who Sheeba? What has she done?’ You meet those also. He knew exactly who I was and what was my body of work.”

Those who have watched ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’ are aware of Dharmendra confusing Sheeba’s character for Shabana Azmi as Jamini Chatterjee while dancing at a club and plants a peck on her cheek. Sheeba reveals that originally the scene was to have a liplock which did not happen. “I heard the whole sequence, thought about it, discussed it with Akashdeep (husband). So we both were like it`s a funny thing, it`s nothing serious. It`s not some sleazy passion. But it was my good luck that it didn’t happen because already the peck became such a big issue. I was like, ‘Yikes, we are still not ready are we? But I thought it all was very cute.”

Sheeba Sabir reunited with Alia Bhatt in ‘Jigra’. Going forward, she asserts that after always wanting to be the main lead, she has realised that it is better to be a very tiny part of a huge film rather than be a part of a big project that will never see the light of day. “Of course, it would be the icing on the cake If I got great parts but I am not going to hold my breath,” she concludes.

Microsoft Phi-3 Launched as Company’s Smallest Open-Source AI Model to Date


Microsoft on Tuesday released Phi-3, its smallest language artificial intelligence (AI) model to date. Smaller AI models are significant, because they have the potential to be run on smartphones. The latest AI model is the successor to Phi-2, which was released in December 2023, and comes with higher training database and larger parameters. The increased parameters help the AI model understand and respond to more complex questions compared to its predecessor. It is also claimed to be on par with models trained on more than 10 times the number of parameters used for Phi-3.

A pre-print paper detailing the small language model (SLM) has been published on arXiv. However, as  arXiv does not conduct peer reviews, the validity of the claims is yet to be ascertained. AI enthusiasts can test out the AI model through Azure and Ollama. Microsoft said the AI model is also available on the Nvidia NIM microservice with a standard API interface, and has been optimised for Nvidia GPUs. A Hugging Face catalogue for the Phi-3-mini has also been created but the weights are yet to be released.

On performance, the AI model has been trained on 3.3 trillion tokens — units of data that include words, phrases, or subsection of words which are fed to the system to train an AI model. It also contains 3.8 billion parameters, which highlight the level of complexity the chatbot can understand. They are essentially neural connections where each point is knowledge about a certain topic, and it connects to various other such points which contain information contextual to the original point.

Microsoft claims — based on internal benchmarking — that the chabot rivals models such as Mixtral 8x7B and GPT-3.5, which are much larger than the SML. The AI is aligned for chat format, which means it can respond to conversational queries. “We also provide some initial parameter-scaling results with a 7B and 14B models trained for 4.8T tokens, called phi-3-small and phi-3-medium, both significantly more capable than phi-3-mini,” the tech giant says.

Reuters reports that the AI model, designed to perform simpler tasks, is also hosted on Microsoft Azure and Ollama. The company is yet to share details around Phi-3-mini’s open source license. Notably, Apache 2.0 license, which Grok AI recently issued, allows both academic and commercial usage.

Huawei MatePad 11.5 has been launched in China with a 2.2K LCD screen. The tablet is available in a PaperMatte Edition as well. The display, which offers 120Hz refresh rate, comes with several eye-protection technologies which are said to reduce screen glare and visual fatigue. The tablet runs on HarmonyOS 4.2 and supports multi-device connectivity. It is backed by a 7,700mAh battery which is said to offer up to 10 hours of local video playback. The MatePad 11.5 can be paired with the Huawei Smart Keyboard.

Huawei MatePad 11.5 price in China starts at CNY 1,699 (roughly Rs. 20,000) for the 8GB + 128GB option. The PaperMatte Edition for the same variant is priced at CNY 1,899 (roughly Rs. 22,400). The base and PaperMatte Edition for the 8GB + 256GB configuration are listed at CNY 1,899 (roughly Rs. 22,400) and CNY 2,099 (roughly Rs. 24,800), respectively.

The tablet is offered in three colour options — Frost Silver, Island Blue, and Space Grey. It is available for purchase in the country via Huawei’s VMall website.

Huawei MatePad 11.5 Specifications, Features

The Huawei MatePad 11.5 sports an 11.5-inch 2.2K (2,200 x 1,440 pixels) TFT LCD screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, 229ppi pixel density, and 86 percent screen-to-body ratio. It comes with SGS Low Visual Fatigue Certification alongside TÜV Rheinland’s non-reflective, hardware-level low blue light, and flicker-free certifications.

The company has not yet disclosed the processor details of the Huawei MatePad 11.5. The official listing confirms that it supports 8GB of RAM, up to 256GB of onboard storage and ships with HarmonyOS 4.2. The tablet supports multiple floating windows and multi-screen collaboration features.

For optics, the Huawei MatePad 11.5 carries a 13-megapixel main rear sensor. It includes an 8-megapixel front-facing shooter for selfies and video calls. The tablet gets a quad speaker unit with Huawei’s Histen 9.0 Audio technology, which is said to offer users a high-quality, immersive sound experience.

The Huawei MatePad 11.5 packs a 7,700mAh battery with support for 30W wired fast charging. It is said to provide users with up to 10 hours of uninterrupted local video playback time. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.2, OTG and a USB Type-C port. The tablet measures 260.88 x 176.82 x 6.85mm and weighs 499g.

Mumbai: The Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, who was recently seen in a cameo role in the theatrical film ‘Singham Again’, has shared a picture with his father, legendary screenwriter Salim Khan, and the latter’s first bike.

On Thursday, the actor took to his Instagram, and shared two pictures. The first picture shows Salman looking at his father as the latter sat on his bike.

The second picture shows the superstar himself sitting on the bike and looking off the camera. The pictures prove why the ‘People’ magazine once voted Salman as the sexiest man alive. Although the age has caught up with Salman, he still looks charming.


The actor wrote in the caption, “Dad’s 1st bike, Triumph Tiger 100,1956”.

Salman is the son of Salim Khan of the legendary screenwriter duo Salim-Javed. The veteran writers revolutionised Hindi cinema with their writing, and also played a crucial role in the stardom of veteran Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan as they made a template of the ‘Angry Young Man’ for the megastar which helped him climb the ladders of success.

While Salim Khan took a backseat after his split with Javed Akhtar, Javed continued to work in cinema as he wrote screenplays for films and also wrote the lyrics for many chartbusters from Hindi cinema.

The second generation of both Salim and Javed have carved a niche for themselves. While Salman is one of the biggest and bankable stars of the country, Javed’s kids, Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar are considered amongst some of the best filmmakers in Hindi cinema.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Salman will be next seen in ‘Sikandar’ in which he has been paired opposite ‘Pushpa’ star Rashmika Mandanna. The film is directed by AR Murugadoss, who is known for films like ‘Ghajini’ and ‘Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty’.

It is being produced by Sajid Nadiadwala of Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, and marks the reunion of Salman with Sajid after ‘Kick’ which was released in 2014. The makers of the film have booked its release for Eid 2025, the festival which is reserved for releases of Salman Khan.

NEW DELHI: Thirteen-year-old Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), the little known miniratna PSU, has seen a massive growth over the last 10 years.
From an awarded generation capacity of 0.75 gigawatts (750MW) in 2014-15, it has seen the combined capacity soar to 65.3GW, according to data on its website. Over 60% or more than 40GW was solar energy, where India has seen rapid growth, followed by 16.3GW of wind and the remaining 9-odd GW being hybrid.
The model is simple – SECI procures power from “successful developers” who bid for its contracts and sells to power distribution companies through long-term power purchase agreements and power sale agreements. As a result, it traded in some 43,000 million units of power last year. It has also set up its own projects and has entered into joint ventures with state utilities.
The contract at the heart of the controversy involving Adani Green Energy and Azure Power – which face bribery charges in the US – was floated sometime in 2019.
“There is nothing against SECI, that SECI has done anything wrong. That is nowhere. There is no mention of any wrongdoing or irregularity on part of SECI,” the company’s CMD RP Gupta told news agency PTI.
The contract was part of production-linked incentive scheme, involving creating manufacturing capacity, and also installing capacity for solar power generation.
In Dec 2019, Azure Power had announced that it had won a contract to supply 2GW solar power at Rs 2.92 per unit for 25 years. The contract came with a requirement to manufacture 500MW solar cells and modules.
Six months later, Adani Green said that it had bagged the “world’s largest” solar award of 8GW from SECI to be delivered over eight years, involving an investment of USD 6 billion (Rs 45,000crore). It involved a commitment by Adani Solar to establish 2GW of additional solar cell and module manufacturing capacity.

A cybersecurity group has discovered multiple vulnerabilities in apps developed by Microsoft for macOS that allowed hackers to target users. The security flaws affect apps such as Microsoft Office, Outlook, Teams, OneNote and other apps from the Redmond firm, and hackers were able to access a user’s camera and microphone by misusing Apple’s permission framework on its desktop operating system.. While Microsoft has issued fixes for two of its applications on macOS, its other apps are still vulnerable to attackers.

Microsoft App Vulnerabilities Let Hackers Access Camera, Microphone Without Permissions

Cybersecurity group Cisco Talos revealed details of eight vulnerabilities spotted in Microsoft’s apps for macOS in a blog post. These flaws allowed hackers to inject specially crafted malicious libraries into six Microsoft apps — Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, OneNote — and bypass Apple’s permission model on macOS.

In order to gain access to a user’s microphone and camera, malicious software would need to be granted explicit user consent for the relevant permissions, in accordance with Apple’s Transparency, Consent and Control (TCC) framework on macOS. However. some malicious programs can use a process called library injection (or dylib injection on macOS) to gain access to permissions that were granted to other apps.

As a result, macOS users who had Microsoft’s apps installed on their computer could be vulnerable to hacking, according to Cisco Talos. The flaws allowed hackers to record audio by injecting libraries into the aforementioned apps. Microsoft Excel is the only app in the list that doesn’t have access to the microphone, while apps such as Microsoft Teams can also access the device’s camera.

Microsoft Patches Two Affected Apps, Other Apps Remain Vulnerable

 The cybersecurity group says that it reported the security vulnerabilities to Microsoft, and the firm has since updated two of the affected apps with fixes for the flaws. Users who are running the latest versions of Microsoft Teams and OneNote should not be impacted, but the company’s Outlook and Office apps are currently affected by the security flaw.

According to Cisco Talos, Microsoft should not have disabled library validation, as it exposes users to unnecessary risks by bypassing hardened runtime safeguards put in place by Apple on the OS, designed to protect users via TCC and its permission model.

Apple could increase security on macOS by prompting users when a third-party plugin is being loaded into apps, as these apps might have already been granted permissions. This could warn users that these external plugins can access the same permissions granted to the original app.

The Game Awards announced the nominees for the best video games of 2024 across multiple categories Monday. PS5 exclusive Astro Bot and Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII Rebirth lead the pack with seven nominations each, including the coveted Game of the Year honour. Other nominees for the night’s biggest prize include action-RPG Black Myth: Wukong, indie roguelike deckbuilder Balatro, breakout RPG hit Metaphor: ReFantazio and Elden Ring expansion Shadow of the Erdtree — the first DLC ever to be nominated for Game of the Year.

Metaphor: ReFantazio was also nominated for Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, Best Art Direction, Best Score and Music and Best RPG, rounding out a total six nominations. Indie darling Balatro, a poker-inspired roguelike deckbuilder, ended up with third highest nominations with five nods, while Black Myth: Wukong and Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree garnered four nominations each.

Shadow of the Erdtree’s Game of the Year nomination has irked a section of fans as it’s not a standalone title. The Game Awards now allow for DLCs, remakes and remasters to be nominated in all categories “if the jury deems the new creative and technical work to be worthy of a nomination.” The inclusion of the Elden Ring expansion in the category means that the acclaimed Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth misses out on a Game of the Year nomination.

On the indie side, Animal Well, Balatro, Lorelei and the Laser Eyes, Neva, UFO 50 made up the nominees for Best Independent Game. Balatro, a breakout hit across platforms this year, was also nominated for Best Game Direction, Best Debut Indie Game and Best Mobile Game. Neva, a puzzle-platformer from publisher Devolver Digital, also received nods for Best Art Direction and Games for Impact, with total three nominations.

The Game Awards 2024 marks the first time since 2019 that a Nintendo-published title isn’t in the running for Game of the Year. The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom was nominated for Best Action/Adventure Game and Best Family Game.

The Game Awards 2024 will be held live at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on December 12, 2024, and live streamed globally on online platforms like YouTube and Twitch. The ceremony will be hosted by creator and producer Geoff Keighley. Here’s the full list of nominees:

Windows 11 Start menu is getting an update that might leave some users feeling annoyed. Microsoft is rolling out Start menu ads with the new Windows 11 update that is expected to reach all users this week. These ads are shown as part of the recommended section and the tech giant is pitching them as a discoverability feature to learn about “great” Microsoft Store apps. However, for those who prefer that their Start menu remains clean and without unsolicited advertisements, there is an easy solution to disable them.

The personalised ads are part of Microsoft’s Windows KB5036980 update, which was in preview for the last two weeks. As per a report by The Verge, the company began testing with ads earlier this month. Now, on its support page, the tech giant revealed the addition of ads and said, “The Recommended section of the Start menu will show some Microsoft Store apps. These apps come from a small set of curated developers. This will help you to discover some of the great apps that are available.”

Reportedly, some users are already seeing these ads. Currently, the recommended section shows the recently used files and apps, however, based on some screenshots we have seen online, the ads will begin to feature in this area. Interestingly, there are no visual cues to identify a promoted app compared to one you already have apart from the user’s knowledge of installed apps. There is one small clue — while all other installed apps show the time when it was last used, promoted apps come with a small description of it.

Luckily, Microsoft is not pushing these ads on users without any escape. The company has also explained an easy method to disable these ads. Some users might find value in these ads as they are curated by select developers and can help in discovering useful apps. However, if you would rather not see them and want to return the Start menu to its pristine appearance, you can follow these steps.

  1. Click on the Start menu.
  2. Locate the Settings app and click on it.
  3. Click on Personalisation.
  4. Within the Personalisation menu, locate Start and click on it.
  5. Look for the fourth option from the top titled Show recommendations for tips, app promotions, and more.
  6. Turn off the toggle for the option.
  7. The ads should be disabled for you.

Filmmaker Christopher Nolan is collecting Hollywood royalties for his next movie like the gems in the infinity gauntlet. Hollywood star Robert Pattinson is set to reunite with ace filmmaker Christopher Nolan after ‘Tenet’. The actor will be next seen in the filmmaker’s closely guarded project at Universal Pictures, reports ‘Variety’.

The actor joins an impressive ensemble that already includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway and Zendaya.

As per ‘Variety’, Universal and Nolan’s follow-up to their Oscar-winning drama ‘Oppenheimer’ is projecting a production start date sometime in the first half of 2025.

Robert Pattinson will be quite busy in the New Year. Warner Bros. is looking to film a sequel to his 2022 blockbuster ‘The Batman’, in which the actor would reprise his leading turn as the DC Comics superhero.

Pattinson is also starring in A24’s ‘Primetime’, a thriller drawing inspiration from the reality show ‘To Catch a Predator’ that will serve as the debut narrative feature of rising filmmaker Lance Oppenheim. That indie is planning to ramp up production early next year.

Additionally, Pattinson’s next feature, Bong Joon-Ho’s sci-fi comedy ‘Mickey 17’, is set to release in theatres on April 18, 2025. That $150 million production from Warner Bros., which serves as the Korean auteur’s long-awaited follow-up to his Oscar winner ‘Parasite’, will likely come with its own gauntlet of promotional obligations for Robert Pattinson.

The actor starred alongside John David Washington in Nolan’s time-bending thriller ‘Tenet’, which marked the filmmaker’s final feature at Warner Bros. after a long tenure at the studio that yielded hits such as ‘The Dark Knight’ trilogy, ‘Dunkirk’ and ‘Interstellar’.

The studio’s handling of the release of ‘Tenet’ during the Covid-19 pandemic strained Nolan’s relationship with his longtime home, a tension that ultimately led to the director setting up shop at Universal for ‘Oppenheimer’.
