Redmi K80 Series Teased; Redmi K80 Pro Could Be Priced Lower Than OnePlus 13

Redmi K80 series launch is expected to happen soon. The Chinese company has yet to announce a launch date, but ahead of that, Redmi’s General Manager teased the upcoming lineup on the Web. The forthcoming series is confirmed to include the vanilla Redmi K80 and Redmi K80 Pro. They are expected to bring several performance-oriented upgrades over last year’s Redmi K70 and Redmi K70 Pro. The Redmi K80 Pro is rumoured to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC.

Redmi Brand’s General Manager Wang Teng Thomas on Weibo teased the arrival of the new Redmi K80 series. The series will comprise the vanilla Redmi K80 and Redmi K80 Pro. It was previously speculated to include a Redmi K80e model as well. The phones are confirmed to run on customised HyperOS 2 interface.

The upcoming lineup is teased to come with enhanced imaging, longer battery life, and better screens than their predecessors. It will have a different design from the previous models with a new texture and metal frame. The Weibo post also confirms a price hike for the Redmi K80 series.

Redmi K80 Pro AnTuTu Score Revealed

The Redmi K80 Pro appears to have scored over 3 million points on the AnTuTu 10 platform. The other two unnamed phones next to the device scored 2,832,981 and 2,738,065 points.

Further, an image posted by the executive on Weibo indicates that the Redmi K80 Pro will have a higher configuration and price than competitor’s models. In the comment section, he clarifies that it will have a lower price than the OnePlus 13. The OnePlus 13 starts at CNY 4,499 (around Rs. 53,000). For comparison, the Redmi K70 Pro launched at CNY 3,299 (around Rs. 38,000). It could offer a higher configuration than the iQOO 13.

The Redmi K80 series is rumoured to debut later this month. Both models are expected to pack a 6.67-inch 2K resolution display with 120Hz refresh rate. They could come with IP68 dust and water resistance. The Redmi K80 is likely to run on Snapdragon 8 Gen SoC while the Redmi K80 Pro could get a Snapdragon 8 Elite under the hood.

Last year’s Redmi K70 was rebranded as the Poco F6 Pro for the global market. Therefore the Redmi K80 is anticipated to debut as Poco F7 Pro in the global market.

Veteran singer Kavita Krishnamurti: `I have always felt scared of falling short`

Entertainment websites are often filled with tales of Kavita Krishnamurti’s musical journey commencing from her schooling days, however, the veteran singer appears to chronicle her experiences as vividly as though they occurred only yesterday. She recalls how a chance interaction with Hemant Kumar opened doors for her in the industry after he introduced her to Manna Dey, and the impact that being the dubbing artiste for Lata Mangeshkar had on her life. Her conversations are peppered with names of veteran musicians, as well as those who, despite being skilled, were unable to find a place in the limelight. If one taught her appropriate methods to breathe while rendering a song, another enabled her to understand the importance of learning musical notes.

Krishnamurti (R) was a dubbing artiste for Lata Mangeshkar

At a city concert tomorrow, Krishnamurti is set to encapsulate these experiences into a set that promises to take music aficionados on a memorable journey. In this conversation, she discusses what’s in store for fans, and why she is certain her best work is yet to come.

Edited excerpts from the interview:

When you have to encapsulate your life experiences into a musical event, how do you go about doing it?
First, it’s important to choose the most important songs to sing. Some part of the performance will be a tribute to all the great people I have worked with. I will subsequently [render] songs belonging to the time when I sang for Subhash Ghai and K Viswanath. I have videos of people, including music directors and actors, who have spoken about me and the songs we have worked on. There will also be details on how I got to sing popular songs like Hawa hawai, and work with different composers like AR Rahman. The tribute section will celebrate those senior singers I have worked with and will narrate those stories about them that are relevant to my life. Finally, the show will include some of my popular songs from across the decades.

The singer (C) often worked with composers Laxmikant-Pyarelal

Your work has been pivotal to the lives of people across generations, with your most recent song being in last week’s release, The Sabarmati Report. How do you perceive this longevity?
I have grown up listening to the greatest artistes. I grew up listening to Lata ji, Asha ji [Bhosle], Manna da [Dey], and Kishore da [Kumar]. So, the standards that were set when it came to music were very high. I have always felt scared of falling short. I’m only weighed down [by pressure] when people praise the way I had rendered an old song. I wonder if I will be able to sing it on stage in the same way that I did 30 years ago. I keep telling myself, I have a few more years to sing, and I cannot allow myself to think that the best is over. I am also motivated by my husband, who, even at this age, after having performed for 70 years on stage, and at top concerts, sits at night to practice and says, ‘I’m not getting this note right.’ I feel I am listening to impeccable music, but he thinks he needs to do better.

Looking back at the last 54 years, which moments do you believe were most instrumental in shaping you as an artiste?
Singing with Hemant da [Kumar] was a big learning experience. He made me sing with Lata ji, and that was an eye-opener. Seeing her stand next to me and sing with perfection was unbelievable. After she would finish singing, I’d hear her voice and understand her approach. Another legend from whom I learnt was Manna Dey, who would reduce me to tears in each of his concerts because his music could transport me to heaven. He lived the life of a great artiste—he was dedicated to music till the age of 94, when he passed away. He was also a family man. He was attached to his wife, and I saw perfection in their relationship. He’d tell me, ‘Keep your feet on the ground, because when you go up, you also have to come down. Remember to keep track of your own money, go to the market, and buy your own stuff.’ [He] lived the life of a common person. Then, singing for Laxmikant-Pyarelal was also a defining experience, as was dubbing for Lata ji. I’d sing the song with the full orchestra, and then [after she would record it], notice how she sang it. I learnt so much about what great singing truly is.

Moon Rocks Brought From the Far Side Confirm Ancient Volcanic Activity

Researchers have revealed insights into the Moon’s far side, analysing samples retrieved by China’s Chang’e-6 mission. This mission was the first time when nearly 2kg of geological samples from the far side of the Moon was brought back to the Earth. The findings, detailed in two separate studies published on November 15, in Science and Nature, provide a comprehensive view of volcanic activity on the Moon that persisted for billions of years.

Decoding Lunar Dust and Lava Grains

Dr. Qiu-Li Li, a researcher at the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing and co-author of an independent study published in the Nature journal, highlighted the importance of the findings, explaining that they shed light on prolonged volcanic activity and distinct mantle sources on the lunar far side. The mission, China’s second to the far side after Chang’e-4 in 2019, landed in the ancient South Pole-Aitken Basin, formed approximately four billion years ago by a massive meteor impact.

The samples collected comprised fine dust particles ranging from 1 to hundreds of micrometres in size. According to Dr. Yi-Gang Xu, petrologist at the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Guangzhou and co-author of another independent study published in the Science journal, these particles reflect a mixture of materials from various geological eras. The continuous bombardment by micrometeorites and solar particles over time has contributed to the formation and dispersal of such dust across the Moon.

Isotopic analysis revealed that some grains originated from lava flows dated to around 2.83 billion years ago. Researchers working on the Nature study also identified lava grains as old as 4.2 billion years, underscoring the Moon’s extensive volcanic history.

Implications for Lunar Evolution

The studies collectively confirm that the Moon experienced sustained volcanic activity long before transitioning into the largely inactive state observed today. These findings contribute significantly to the understanding of lunar evolution and planetary geology.

By returning and analysing these unique samples, Chang’e-6 has added valuable knowledge about the Moon’s far side, marking a significant step forward in lunar exploration.

Snapdragon X Elite Surfaces on Geekbench, Beats Apple’s M3 Chip in Multi-Core Test

Snapdragon X Elite Surfaces on Geekbench, Beats Apple’s M3 Chip in Multi-Core Test

Snapdragon X Elite — Qualcomm’s flagship computer chip that is expected to arrive on laptop from popular brands this year, has been spotted in a benchmark test. A listing for the purported Surface Laptop 6 on Geekbench suggests that Microsoft’s upcoming Surface laptop could beat Apple’s MacBook Pro models that are powered by its latest M3 chip, in one CPU test. According to recent reports, Microsoft could launch Surface laptops equipped with Snapdragon X Elite chips at a hardware event in May.

The Surface Laptop 6 was spotted by WCCFTech on Geekbench, without an official product name. It is listed with the title “OEMBR OEMBR Product Name MFG” and the details show that it is powered by a Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 chipset at 4.01GHz, with 12 cores. It’s worth noting that there are three Snapdragon X Elite variants, and the one that was benchmarked was not the most powerful chip — that variant (XIE-84-100) boasts a 4.20GHz boost clock speed.

The purported Surface Laptop 6 with a Snapdragon X Elite chip has a single-core score of 2,714 points, and a multi-core score of 14,078 points. This puts the chip ahead of Apple’s 14-inch M3 MacBook Pro in Geekbench’s multi-core tests — the M3 MacBook Pro scored 3,103 and 12,065 points, respectively.

If these benchmark tests are genuine, then Apple’s M3 chip should be 13.37 percent faster than the Snapdragon X Elite on the rumoured Surface Laptop 6. Meanwhile, Qualcomm’s chip is shown to be 15.4 percent faster than the M3 MacBook Pro. After all, the Snapdragon processor has more cores (12) than Apple’s M3 chip (8).

It’s worth taking these benchmarks with a grain of salt, as Microsoft is yet to announce any plans to launch new Surface models with Snapdragon laptop chips. According to a recent report, Microsoft is said to be confident that the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 can beat the latest 3nm Apple Silicon processor. We can expect to learn more about these rumoured devices soon — Microsoft is tipped to introduce new Surface laptops powered by Snapdragon chips at its next hardware event in May.

At the Disney APAC Content Showcase in Singapore, Mackie told Deadline, “I found out while watching a football game at Chris Evans’ house,” he revealed. “When I read it, we just hugged each other and jumped around in a circle,” Mackie said, describing the emotional moment.

Captain America: Brave New World, set for release on February 14, 2025, Mackie explained, “Sam’s evolution is simple. He’s still a counselor. He’s still serving soldiers, but at the same time, now he’s a leader of his community in the country.”

“It’s very different with the serum — you can fight anybody,” Mackie stated. “When you don’t have the serum, you have to be smart and engineer different ways of defeating [enemies]. With Sam, him being a counselor, he uses more of his brains than brawn. He uses more of his wit than his fist. He’s more of a friend to everyone.”

Mackie opens up about his unconventional comic book background

Mackie also touched on his late start with comics, admitting, “A lot of people might not like this, but I’ve never read comics. I’ve watched every cartoon, like everything from Tom and Jerry to Teen Titans — if you haven’t watched Teen Titans, that’s my favorite cartoon. Go online and search the ‘Booty Scooty’ [episode]. It’s amazing.”

“With the Captain America stories, it has always been the realistic, grounding world. This movie stays in the line with the original Captain America, of that thrill, of that espionage, of that grounded nature with storytelling and really investing the actual audience into the story.”

He also praised his new Captain America suit, “It’s a high-tech suit. I went to Wakanda, met with everybody there, we had dinner. When Deadline asked about his favourite superhero in the MCU, Mackie revealed, “My favourite character of all time is the Incredible Hulk. I’ve always been a Hulk fan.”

HP Retains Top Spot as Indian PC Shipments Grow 7.1 Percent YoY in Q2 2024: Report

HP retained its position at the top of the Indian PC market amidst an ongoing growth in shipments in the second quarter of 2024, as per a report. India has reportedly recorded a 7.1 percent year-over-year (YoY) growth in Q2 2024, noting an increase in shipment volume in all three categories — desktop, notebook, and workstation. The three categories grew 5.9 percent, 7.4 percent, and 12.4 percent YoY, respectively. The report highlighted that an increased demand in both online and offline channels resulted in the growth.

Indian PC Shipments Rose in Q2 2024

According to a report by market research firm International Data Corporation (IDC), India’s PC market noted a shipment of 3.39 million units in the second quarter of the ongoing year. This is 7.1 percent higher than the shipments in the same quarter last year. The report found that the Q2 2024 witnessed an increase in consumer demand by 11.2 percent, which required additional units to be fulfilled.

The demand was reportedly seen in both the online as well as the offline channels. The report also mentions that the e-commerce channel grew by a significant 22.4 percent YoY. The commercial segment noted a minor increase of 3.5 percent YoY, which was largely pushed by an increased demand in the small and medium-sized businesses (SMB) and large business segments. It witnessed a growth of 12.4 percent and 33.1 percent YoY, respectively.

HP retained the top spot in both commercial and consumer segments, capturing 33.5 percent and 29.7 percent of the market. The company also dominated the notebook category and clocked a market share of 34.4 percent. As per IDC, the growth was a result of increased demand for consumer notebooks and some key enterprise orders.

Lenovo and Dell Technologies consolidated the second and the third position in terms of market share. The former captured 17.5 percent of the market whereas the latter could only manage 14.8 percent share. Notably, Dell lost 0.5 percent share of the market compared to Q2 2023. IDC reports that Lenovo performed well in the SMB segment registering a growth of 16.5 percent YoY, while Dell mainly found growth in the consumer segment.

Robert Pattinson reunites with Christopher Nolan for his next fiercely guarded p

Filmmaker Christopher Nolan is collecting Hollywood royalties for his next movie like the gems in the infinity gauntlet. Hollywood star Robert Pattinson is set to reunite with ace filmmaker Christopher Nolan after ‘Tenet’. The actor will be next seen in the filmmaker’s closely guarded project at Universal Pictures, reports ‘Variety’.

The actor joins an impressive ensemble that already includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway and Zendaya.

As per ‘Variety’, Universal and Nolan’s follow-up to their Oscar-winning drama ‘Oppenheimer’ is projecting a production start date sometime in the first half of 2025.

Robert Pattinson will be quite busy in the New Year. Warner Bros. is looking to film a sequel to his 2022 blockbuster ‘The Batman’, in which the actor would reprise his leading turn as the DC Comics superhero.

Pattinson is also starring in A24’s ‘Primetime’, a thriller drawing inspiration from the reality show ‘To Catch a Predator’ that will serve as the debut narrative feature of rising filmmaker Lance Oppenheim. That indie is planning to ramp up production early next year.

Additionally, Pattinson’s next feature, Bong Joon-Ho’s sci-fi comedy ‘Mickey 17’, is set to release in theatres on April 18, 2025. That $150 million production from Warner Bros., which serves as the Korean auteur’s long-awaited follow-up to his Oscar winner ‘Parasite’, will likely come with its own gauntlet of promotional obligations for Robert Pattinson.

The actor starred alongside John David Washington in Nolan’s time-bending thriller ‘Tenet’, which marked the filmmaker’s final feature at Warner Bros. after a long tenure at the studio that yielded hits such as ‘The Dark Knight’ trilogy, ‘Dunkirk’ and ‘Interstellar’.

The studio’s handling of the release of ‘Tenet’ during the Covid-19 pandemic strained Nolan’s relationship with his longtime home, a tension that ultimately led to the director setting up shop at Universal for ‘Oppenheimer’.
