Microsoft’s artificial intelligence (AI) feature Recall, which is yet to be available to the public, reportedly cannot be uninstalled from Windows 11. Recently, it was said to be available to Windows Insiders in the 24H2 version of Windows 11 in preview. Interestingly, that version allowed users to uninstall the feature. However, as per a report, the tech giant has claimed that it was a bug and once fixed, users will not be able to uninstall Recall from the operating system.

Deskmodder spotted the feature in the 24H2 version of Windows 11. However, the publication found that Recall could be uninstalled in it. Notably, this is still the beta version of the feature, currently not available to public users. However, The Verge spoke with the company which clarified that it was a bug and Recall would not be uninstallable in future versions.

“We are aware of an issue where Recall is incorrectly listed as an option under the ‘Turn Windows features on or off’ dialog in Control Panel. This will be fixed in an upcoming update,” the publication quoted Brandon LeBlanc, Windows Senior Product Manager as saying.

Recall, first announced in June by the company, is one of the major AI features for AI PCs. However, ever since its announcement, the feature has raised criticism from netizens. The feature captures periodic screenshots of the PC screen, and by using AI, it can answer user queries about the activity of the user.

With this, users can ask questions such as “What tab was I working on in Google Chrome on the afternoon of July 20?” and the AI can provide the answer as well as show a snapshot of the tab.

Many expressed concerns about the privacy and security of the feature. In the earliest version of the feature, the screenshots were found to be stored unencrypted, allowing anyone with physical access to the device to check the screenshots. The negative response resulted in Microsoft taking down the feature, and claiming it will be re-released later with improvements.

The company, in the following month, announced several upgrades to the feature including adding encryption to the folder, and integration with Windows Hello security feature. The company also said the feature will be turned off by default and users will have to consent to turn it on.

Meta Platforms Inc.’s Instagram will let some users reset their content recommendations, essentially restarting the algorithm that determines what types of posts and videos they see in their feed. 

The change, which is just a test but will soon roll out globally, is designed to give people more control if they find the content in their Instagram feed no longer matches their interests. Earlier this year, Instagram announced new privacy controls that let teen users choose the topics they want to see more regularly, such as books, travel, cooking or sports. Instagram already allows people to share whether they are interested in videos that are recommended to them, and takes into account other signals, like whether a person likes or shares a post, to help decide what to show them.

Resetting the recommendation algorithm will also give users a chance to review the accounts they follow in case they wish to drop people. “We want to make sure everyone on Instagram — especially teens — has safe, positive, age-appropriate experiences and feels the time they’re spending on Instagram is valuable,” Meta wrote Tuesday in a blog post. “We want to give teens new ways to shape their Instagram experience, so it can continue to reflect their passions and interests as they evolve.”

Meta has been recommending more content related to entertainment on Instagram, moving away from news and politics, as it seeks to increase the amount of time young people spend on its apps and avoid confrontational posts. The company has also been recommending more content from strangers, or people that users don’t already follow, as it tries to compete with ByteDance Ltd.-owned TikTok.

TikTok’s algorithm, which is credited for the app’s swift rise, is known for its ability to help people go “viral” by recommending their content to people that don’t already follow them. More than one billion people worldwide use TikTok, many of them teenagers who spend hours each day watching video content. Last year, TikTok also introduced a feature to let users reset their video feeds, along with an update that showed teens less potentially harmful content, such as videos related to sadness, extreme dieting or sexually suggestive topics.

Acer Swift 14 AI was unveiled in select markets globally on Wednesday, May 22. The laptop is powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon X series CPUs and comes with Copilot+ support which includes optimised AI-backed features to improve users’ productivity. Some of the advanced AI tools include Recall, Cocreator, Live Captions, new Windows Studio Effects, and Auto Super Resolution. It also sports a thin-and-light design with an aluminium chassis and a 180-degree hinge which allows users to open the laptop flat.

Acer Swift 14 AI price, availability

The Acer Swift 14 AI starts at $1,099 (roughly Rs. 91,500) or EUR 1,499 (roughly Rs. 1,35,300). It will be available in the EMEA region and North America in June and July, respectively. The company notes that the exact specifications, prices, and availability of the laptop will vary by region. The India launch of the device has not yet been confirmed. It is offered in a silver colour option.

The Acer Swift 14 AI sports a 14.5-inch WQXGA (2,560 x 1,600 pixels) IPS touch display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a TÜV Rheinland Eyesafe Certification 2.0 that is said to minimise blue light harmful effects. The 180-degree hinge of the laptop is claimed to offer users a flexible mobility option by allowing them to open it with one hand.

The AI-powered laptop is available in two processor options – Snapdragon X Elite X1E-78-100 and Snapdragon X Plus X1P-64-100. They come with Qualcomm Adreno GPU, up to 32GB of dual-channel LPDDR5x RAM, and up to 1TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe storage. It runs on Windows 11 out-of-the-box. 

Acer Swift 14 AI has a dedicated Copilot key which gives easy access to all things AI. These include tools like Recall, Cocreator, and Live Captions. These tools are meant to help users retrace their past timeline, create innovative images, and get real-time English subtitles.

The laptop is also equipped with dual speakers with DTS-backed audio and a 1440p QHD IR webcam with a Privacy Shutter and a triple-mic system. It also comes with two USB Type-C, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, and a combined audio jack. 

Acer has packed a 75Wh battery in the Swift 14 AI with support for fast charging. On a single charge, the laptop is claimed to offer up to 18 hours of web browsing time and 26 hours of video playback time. The laptop weighs 1.3kg and measures 322.6 x 225.95 x 17.95mm in size.

Realme GT 7 Pro will launch in India on November 26 at 12pm IST. The phone was unveiled in China earlier this month. The Indian variant is expected to be similar to its Chinese counterpart. Previously, the company has confirmed that the variant in India will be equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and have a similar design as the Chinese version. Now Realme has revealed several camera specifications and features of the handset. The build details of the Realme GT 7 Pro have been confirmed too.

Realme GT 7 Pro Camera Features

The Realme GT 7 Pro will be equipped with a 1/1.95-inch 50-megapixel Sony IMX882 periscope telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and 120x digital zoom support, the company confirmed on an official microsite. As part of its triple rear camera unit, it will include a 1/1.56-inch 50-megapixel Sony IMX906 primary sensor as well as an 8-megapixel wide-angle shooter.

In a press release, the company also revealed that the Realme GT 7 Pro will offer an underwater photography mode without requiring a case. This will be possible thanks to the IP69-rated build that is claimed to withstand depths of up to 2 meters for 30 minutes. The handset also features a sonic water-draining speaker which is said to ensure no water residue remains in the smartphone speaker.

Meanwhile, the in-display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor on the phone is claimed to work underwater. Users will also be able to switch between cameras, zoom, and perform other camera actions as well. The company said that the handset will come with an AI Snap Mode which will support up to 30 images per second with a shutter speed of 1/10266 seconds. It can be used to capture high-speed moving objects with precision and clarity, according to the company.

The Realme GT 7 Pro India variant will also support a Live Photo feature. Although the company has yet to confirm the front camera details of the phone, the Chinese variant has a 16-megapixel sensor. The Indian version will likely get the same selfie camera.

According to the official microsite, the Realme GT 7 Pro will be available in India in Galaxy Grey and Mars Design colourways. The Amazon microsite for the handset confirms its eventual availability on the e-commerce site.

Samsung Galaxy Book 5 Pro 360 is expected to make its global debut later this year. The purported 2-in-1 laptop is likely to be a part of the South Korean technology conglomerate’s Galaxy Book 5 lineup. Although Samsung hasn’t confirmed the existence of the device, the specifications of the Galaxy Book 5 Pro 360 have leaked, suggesting features such as an AMOLED touchscreen display, Intel Lunar Lake processor, and S Pen support. Additionally, Galaxy Book 5 Pro 360 renders were also leaked, showcasing its anticipated design.

According to a report by Windows Report, the Samsung Galaxy Book 5 Pro 360 may be powered by an Intel Core Ultra 5 226V processor, paired with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and 512GB of NVMe SSD storage. For graphics, it will reportedly get an Intel Arc GPU. The laptop is also speculated to be equipped with a 16-inch WQXGA+ AMOLED display with a resolution of 2,880×1,800 pixels. It is said to support touchscreen input and will also be compatible with Samsung’s stylus – the S-Pen.

The Galaxy Book 5 Pro 360 is also reported to get HDMI 2.1, Thunderbolt 4, and USB 3.2 ports. It may also get a dedicated microSD card reader and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. Samsung is reported to equip several sensors in its purported laptop, including a gyroscope, accelerometer, and an ambient light sensor. It is also said to have Bluetooth v5.4 and Wi-Fi 7 capabilities.

In terms of dimensions, the Galaxy Book 5 Pro 360 may measure 13.99×9.93×0.5 inches and weigh 1.69kg. It may be backed by a 76Wh battery and come with a 65W USB Type-C adapter.

The leaked renders of the laptop hint at a familiar design to its predecessor, with the exception of a dedicated Copilot key this time around. It carries the same 2-in-one convertible design. The laptop’s keyboard layout allegedly remains identical to the Galaxy Book Pro 360, with the port placement also remaining unchanged.
