The pause in the US-Iran conflict on April 8 has triggered a coordinated repricing across global markets. The sequence is visible in the data. Brent crude fell to $91.7-$94.4 per barrel, thereby marking a one-day decline of about 14-16%. The US dollar index declined by about 1.0-1.1% to around 98.8. This was its lowest level in four weeks. US equities moved in tandem as the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq rose about 2.4% 2.9%, respectively.

Bitcoin follows macro

Bitcoin has followed this macro adjustment rather than leading it. Prices moved to roughly $71,575-$71,927 on the day. This was a gain of about 4.5-4.8%. The alignment seems to be very direct. Oil has eased, the dollar has weakened, and risk assets have repriced higher.

Start of repricing

The transmission in this cycle begins with oil. The Strait of Hormuz accounts for close to 20% of global oil flows. The move in Brent to the $91-$94 range reflects a sharp reduction in disruption risk. This is the starting point of the current repricing across markets.

That shift has fed into inflation expectations and, in turn, into rates pricing. Market-implied probabilities now show the likelihood of holding rates steady at 3.5%-3.75% through December 2026 declining to about 53.6% from 77.4%. The probability of a 25 basis point cut has increasedto about 35.2% from 16.7%. The probability of a 50 basis point or larger cut has risen to about 10.4% from 1.1%.

Tight dependence

The dependence remains tight. These rate expectations are anchored to oil remaining within the $90-$95 band. A move in Brent back above $100 would rebuild the inflation impulse and quickly reprice these probabilities.The currency market reflects the same adjustment. The dollar index at around 98.8, following a roughly 1% one-day fall, points to a partial easing in global liquidity conditions. Bitcoin’s move into the $71,500- $71,900 range, alongside the rise in US equities, indicates that crypto is currently responding to this liquidity shift rather than to crypto-specific demand.

Institutional flows do not yet confirm the price move. US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded net inflows of $471.4 million on April 6. On April 7, flows reversed to net outflows of about $159.1 million. The shift from +$471.4 million to −$159.1 million within one session shows that positioning has not stabilised.

Market’s clear thresholds

Taken together, the market is operating within clearly defined thresholds. Oil is in the $91-$94 range. The dollar index is around 98.8. ETF flows have ranged between +$471.4 million and −$159.1 million across two sessions. Bitcoin is trading in the $71,500-$71,900 band. The constraint is continuity. A single day of strong inflows followed by immediate outflows indicates that institutional participation is still adjusting to macro signals rather than reinforcing price levels.

What follows now depends on whether this adjustment evolves into sustained positioning. Oil, the dollar, and ETF flows must align, and definitely not move in isolation. Brent holding below $95 would keep inflationary pressures in check. A dollar index below 100 would support liquidity conditions. Most importantly, ETF flows need to remain consistently positive across sessions. Until that alignment is visible, the current move reflects a macro-driven repricing within a range, rather than a confirmed directional shift.

It is not the norm for a big Hollywood release to make way for an Indian film. But such was the craze for Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar: The Revenge that even a globally awaited mega project like Project Hail Mary decided to postpone its India release to accommodate the Bollywood film. In the end, the move worked out for both films. Dhurandhar 2 had a record-breaking opening week, following which Project Hail Mary had a strong start in the country as well. Aditya Sood, one of the producers of the Ryan Gosling-starrer, talks to HT about the release and the fan-led campaign for an IMAX release in India.

We meet Aditya in Mumbai, his first visit to the country of his origin since the pandemic. He is in the country for a family wedding, but the chatter is all about Project Hail Mary. “I’ve probably seen it seven or eight times since we released it, and I can’t tell you the experience each time,” he tells us.

Aditya has spent all his life in the US, of which 30 years have been in Hollywood, working at various studios and production houses. But even he was taken aback by the fan push for Project Hail Mary in India.

When the film released on March 26, it failed to find IMAX screens in India as most of them had been given to Dhurandhar 2. But as fans campaigned on social media, the exhibitors relented, and finally, a film shot for the format was able to secure those coveted screens. “I’m thankful, and I send love to the people who did that,” says Aditya, “We made this movie so passionately; it’s six years of our lives that we’ve spent going to get this. Then to be met with that kind of passion and enthusiasm makes it all worthwhile.”

‘We knew what a big deal Dhurandhar was’

Project Hail Mary released worldwide on March 19. But in India, that was Dhurandhar 2 day. Even a pan-India film like Toxic postponed its release. Sony India also pushed Project Hail Mary. Talking about the delayed release, Aditya says, “We have an amazing team here in India who knows the local market. That’s why you’re not making the decisions in Los Angeles. Obviously, we knew what a big deal um, um, Dhurandhar 2 was going to be.”

Many feared that the film’s performance in India could be affected by the delayed release as audiences around the world had already started talking about the film on social media by the time it released here. But Aditya says the delayed release may have helped the film. “I don’t think it’s the worst thing in the world when you see the enthusiasm that the rest of the world has,” he explains. Aditya feels that the fervour for Project Hail Mary mirrored the film’s plot, getting fandoms across the world together. “It’s funny because it reflects what’s in a story: the whole world is experiencing it; it’s a moment where all of us can do something together. And I think that’s really powerful.”

Project Hail Mary has been a global success, minting close to $500 million since its release three weeks ago. In India, the film has earned around ₹50 crore in two weeks, a good number for a non-franchise Hollywood film. Apart from Ryan Gosling, the film also stars James Ortiz.

Team India is set to lock horns with Afghanistan in the one-off Test match, which will begin from June 6 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh.

Afghanistan`s star all-rounder Rashid Khan is likely to skip the Test match as he was advised by the doctors to stay away from red-ball cricket after a back surgery.

While the likelihood of playing a Test match in India is attractive, the all-rounder has maintained his priority of remaining fit for the ODI World Cup 2027 in South Africa.

Earlier, he underwent a lower-back surgery after the ODI World Cup 2023 and revealed that his doctors have cautioned him from featuring in the traditional format of the game. Despite that, he made his appearance in a Test match against Zimbabwe, in which he bowled 54 overs and picked up 11 wickets.

“Very tough question. It`s a little difficult in red ball, because that was the first thing which was told to me by the doctor, `You have to stay away from red ball.` But I still played a Test against Zimbabwe,” Rashid told reporters.

“He (doctor) said `if you don`t want to play cricket, you keep playing the red ball format`,” he added.

The Nangarhar-born cricketer also stated that he won`t be able to play cricket if he sustains any back injury in the Test match against Team India.

“You`re asking me very tough questions. I think I already played one before (in 2025), so I will just take it easy, get myself ready for the World Cup. Imagine something happens to my back in that Test match, I can`t play 100 Test matches. If you`re playing one Test in a year, I can`t play for 100 years, so there is no target in Test cricket,” he said.

Rashid Khan provides an update on his participation in ODI matches for Afghanistan

However, Rashid said that he will continue to make his appearance for Afghanistan in One-Day Internationals (ODIs) for a longer period of time.

“ODIs, yes, I enjoy, and I`m in a good shape to play ODIs for a longer period of time for Afghanistan, but just to be careful with how many I play, and not to put too much load on myself, to be careful if I want to play for a longer period of time,” said the 27-year-old cricketer.
