Special session of Parliament live: The special sitting of the budget session of Parliament will begin from Thursday, during which three major and widely discussed bills are to be introduced. The session will run from 16 to 18 April. The proposed laws include the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirty-First Amendment) Bill, 2026, Delimitation Bill, 2026, Union Territory Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026.
The government is seeking the opposition’s support to pass the amendment bill, which aims to implement women’s reservation in the Lok Sabha from the 2029 general elections based on the 2011 census.
Emphasizing the need for consensus, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged opposition parties to support the amendment. “This is the wish of every sister and daughter of this country and we must fulfill it unanimously,” he said at an event in Dehradun on Tuesday.
Opposition parties, while expressing their support for early implementation of women’s reservation, have expressed strong objection to the Delimitation Bill. He has questioned the basis of redefinition of constituencies and the proposal to increase the number of Lok Sabha seats from the current 543 to 850.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged opposition parties to support a constitutional amendment to ensure that women’s reservation is implemented by the 2029 general elections.
“This is the wish of every sister and daughter of this country and we must fulfill it unanimously,” he said at an event in Dehradun on Tuesday.
Opposition supports quota, opposes delimitation
Opposition parties on Wednesday said they fully support the early implementation of women’s reservation, but expressed strong opposition to the delimitation bill. Congress President and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge chaired a meeting of opposition parties to discuss their position.
Kharge said, “We are all in favor of the Women’s Reservation Bill, but we have objection to the way they (government) have brought it.”
Kharge said that opposition parties have consistently supported women’s reservation. “We have decided to continue supporting women’s reservation, as we did in 2010 and 2023, when we unanimously supported the constitutional amendment,” he said.

Parliament special session LIVE: Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin on Thursday burnt a copy of the delimitation bill, calling it a “black law” and alleging it seeks to turn Tamil people into “refugees” in their own land.
Hours before the special session of Parliament was to be called, Stalin also hoisted a black flag and raised slogans against the proposed law.
In a statement he said, “Let the fire of resistance spread across Tamil Nadu. Let the arrogance of the fascist BJP come down.” Comparing it to the anti-Hindi movements of the 1960s, he said the state’s resistance had once forced the Center to back down.
