TMC crisis live updates: Former TMC leader Sushmita Dev meets Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.

TMC crisis live updates: Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s struggle to stabilize her Trinamool Congress (TMC) and keep it intact does not seem to be ending any time soon and a fresh resignation in the Rajya Sabha – the second this week – has come as the latest setback. Sushmita Dev resigned from Rajya Sabha on Wednesday and said that she has left TMC. This is the second major withdrawal this week.

“I have left Trinamool Congress,” Dev told reporters. Made me want to leave the party, it’s a long storyAnd I don’t think everything should be exposed in politics. It’s just that I don’t want to be in a situation where I’m in two boats at the same time. The way I have been brought up, I cannot stay in one party and serve another party.” She said, “I will not comment on Mamata didi.” That’s for sure.”

Later he met Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma in Delhi. “I met the Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma Because I want to do politics in Assam,” she said while talking to media persons.

Dev, former president of All India Mahila Congress, left the Congress after the 2019 Lok Sabha defeat and joined TMC in 2021. The veteran MP departed shortly after. Sukhendu Shekhar Ray also resigned, alleging “rampant corruption” and “anarchical governance” in the party.

TMC crisis live updates

  • TMC is facing its worst internal crisis ever after losing the state to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the recent assembly elections. TMC chief Mamata Banerjee met Congress leader Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday to review the alliance’s strategy after the opposition and discuss the political situation following a wave of defection from the TMC following the BJP’s victory in the West Bengal elections.
  • Tension escalated last week when Ritabrata Banerjee and 58 MLAs parted ways to stake claim to the post of leader of the opposition. The Speaker recognized them as the main opposition faction and accused the leadership of authoritarian rule, while also challenging the role of Abhishek Banerjee.
  • The West Bengal CID is investigating allegations of forging signatures of TMC MLAs on documents submitted to the Assembly Speaker regarding the appointment of Sovandeb Chattopadhyay as the leader of the opposition. The case began when rebel MLAs accused party leaders of forging signatures and an FIR was registered for cheating, forgery and conspiracy. The CID, which took over the investigation and formed an SIT, has questioned several MLAs, some of whom have reportedly denied that the signatures are genuine. As part of the investigation, CID also visited Mamata Banerjee’s Kalighat residence on Tuesday and also asked for documents related to Abhishek Banerjee.
  • Another faction of TMC emerged – MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar offered support to the NDA, claiming he had the support of 19 other MPs. On Monday, a meeting of 14 TMC MPs was held at Bhupendra Yadav’s residence and Shatabdi Roy’s residence in Delhi.
  • Amid MPs and MLAs breaking ranks, Firhad Hakim and Krishna Chakraborty resigned from their mayor posts in Kolkata and Bidhannagar respectively.
  • TMC leader Jahangir Khan was arrested near the India-Nepal border in an extortion case.
