US-Iran war live updates: The United States and Iran indicated on Friday that a deal to end their war was close
US-Iran war live updates: Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the United States and Iran have agreed to the terms of a deal aimed at ending their war in West Asia. He said Pakistan, which is leading the mediation efforts, is working with both sides on next steps.
The reported progress in talks comes after three days of exchanges between Iran, the United States and Israel earlier this week, raising fears of a wider conflict across the region.
When will the deal be signed?
The proposed agreement is also expected to include a gradual easing of sanctions on Iran and the release of frozen Iranian assets, three regional officials told The Associated Press.
According to officials, a signing ceremony could take place in the coming days after getting approval from officials in Washington and Tehran. Earlier, US President Donald Trump had said that the agreement could be signed this weekend.
Hours after warning of intensified attacks and threatening to take control of Iran’s oil industry, Trump said Thursday that talks had made major progress.
Huge fall in oil prices
Oil prices fell to their lowest level since the early days of the war as traders reacted to signs of increased traffic through the Strait of Hormuz and growing optimism over an interim peace deal between the United States and Iran.
Brent crude futures fell 3.4 percent to $87.33 a barrel, the lowest close since March 5, and ended the week down 6.2 percent. US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude fell 3.2 per cent to $84.88 a barrel, while European gas prices fell as much as 8.4 per cent, according to Bloomberg.
In addition to rising hopes for peace, the decline in oil prices has also been driven by markets looking for alternative ways to manage the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and supply disruptions.
Inside the proposed US-Iran deal
News agency Reuters reported that draft terms of the proposed agreement suggest the US would begin releasing billions of dollars in Iran’s frozen assets and ease sanctions on Iranian oil exports in exchange for reopening the Iranian strait.
Iran’s nuclear program will be discussed during the 60-day negotiation period. A US official said the deal would ultimately result in Iran’s nuclear program being dismantled, dismantled and removed from its stockpile of highly enriched uranium. The proposed conditions also include an inspection system aimed at ensuring long-term compliance.
However, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told state television that Iran, which has not been reported to have agreed to dismantle its nuclear program, wanted to keep the uranium in diluted form. “For Tehran, the only preferred solution to its highly enriched uranium reserves is to dilute the material,” he said.
The report also said the proposals include discussions on possible war reparations for Tehran and the removal of long-standing US demands to limit Iran’s missile program. US officials rejected that claim.

US-Iran war live updates: Trump accuses Iran of attacking Indian ships; Tehran called them ‘baseless’
US-Iran war live updates: US President Donald Trump accused Iran of launching drone attacks on Indian ships departing from the Strait of Hormuz, terming the alleged action as “completely unacceptable”. However, Tehran rejected the allegation as “baseless”.
Three ships carrying Indian crew members were attacked off the coast of Oman this week. In one of these incidents, three Indian sailors died on Wednesday.
“Their (Iranian) drone strike last night against Indian ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz is completely unacceptable,” Trump claimed in a post on Truth Social on Friday.
Iran strongly denies this allegation.
“The US President’s accusation against Iran regarding an Indian ship in the Strait of Hormuz is absolutely baseless,” the Iranian Embassy in India said in a social media post late on Friday.
“This is an attempt to divert public attention from the brutal fact that the US has attacked 3 Indian ships in less than a week and killed 3 innocent Indian sailors. This is pathetic!” It said.
Trump’s comments come after India summoned the charge d’affaires of the US embassy in New Delhi to register protest over US attacks on commercial ships carrying Indian nationals off the coast of Oman.
