New Delhi: Skies turned clear across large parts of India on Thursday, leaving roads submerged and traffic disrupted as continuous rain continued overnight across several states, even the southwest. monsoon Covered the entire country. India Meteorological Department (imd) issued fresh red and orange alerts warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds in many areas.From Delhi to Maharashtra, KeralaHeavy monsoon rains in Uttarakhand and several northeastern states led to waterlogging, uprooted trees, disrupted transportation, triggered landslides and triggered rescue operations even as officials remained on high alert.The IMD also issued district-wise nowcast warnings for the next two to three hours, cautioning residents about intense rainfall, lightning and strong winds in many parts of the country.For Delhi and Haryana, the weather office has issued a red alert, warning of heavy rain, storm, lightning and gusty winds of around 60 kmph.IMD posted, “Red warning: Strong winds (approximately 60 kmph) and heavy rainfall (>15 mm/hr) accompanied by lightning/thunder is very likely over the following districts of Haryana: Faridabad, Karnal, Palwal, Panchkula, Panipat, Sonipat, Yamunanagar.”It warned of a similar situation in all the districts of the national capital. “Delhi: Central Delhi, East Delhi, New Delhi, North Delhi, North East Delhi, North West Delhi, Shahdara, South Delhi, South East Delhi, South West Delhi, West Delhi.”The IMD also issued an orange alert for parts of Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir.“Orange Warning: Thunderstorm and lightning with gusty winds (40-60 kmph) and moderate rainfall (5-15 mm/hr) likely over the following districts: Kerala: Ernakulam, Thrissur.” The alert also includes several districts of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Arunachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.

It is raining heavily in Delhi and NCR

Delhi witnessed another round of heavy rain overnight, leaving several roads submerged and trees uprooted across the city. IMD has issued a red alert for the capital. Safdarjung, the capital’s base weather station, recorded 72.6 mm rainfall in the 24 hours ending 8.30 am.Significant rainfall was also recorded at other stations:

  • Lodhi Road – 80.2 mm
  • ridge – 77.8 mm
  • Palam – 63 mm
  • Ayanagar – 57.4 mm

The minimum temperature was 24.3 degrees Celsius, which is about 3.6 degrees below normal. The weather office has warned of moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorms and lightning throughout the day. Strong winds with speed of 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph are expected in all districts of Delhi. Officials said the weather conditions are likely to gradually improve after July 9 as the monsoon trough will shift further north.

Roads flooded, traffic affected

Severe waterlogging was witnessed in many parts of Delhi and the National Capital Region, severely disrupting traffic and daily commute. Large-scale waterlogging has been reported from Vikas Marg, Munirka, Sadar Bazaar, Geeta Colony, Dwarka, East Delhi and New Delhi Railway Station area. Traffic continued to crawl on major roads, including the Delhi-Noida Expressway, as vehicles had to battle flooded stretches, causing long delays and congestion during the morning rush. Two trees were uprooted on Raja Dheer Singh Road in East of Kailash, disrupting vehicular movement.In Noida, roads in Sector 115, Sector 75, Sector 16 Film City and surrounding areas remained submerged, forcing commuters to wade through knee-deep water.

There is flood in Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad also witnessed widespread waterlogging, especially in Shastrinagar, Kaushambi and Indirapuram, where waterlogged roads led to long traffic jams and disrupted daily life.In a separate incident, heavy rains led to a road collapse near Atal Chowk in Vasundhara, causing a car and a scooter to fall into a ditch. The incident further highlighted the impact of incessant rain on the city’s infrastructure.Despite it being one of the heaviest rains of the season, civic officials said extensive pre-monsoon desilting of drains helped prevent widespread flooding at several sensitive locations, including the NHPC Chowk underpass.

Three people died in building collapse

Heavy rain also proved fatal in Rohini in northwest Delhi, where a four-storey under-construction building collapsed on Wednesday evening. The death toll rose to three after rescue teams recovered two more bodies overnight, PTI reported.

Gurugram is struggling with flooded roads

Neighboring Gurugram is battling severe waterlogging after it received 115 mm of rain in the last 33 hours, with large parts of the city witnessing massive traffic jams.Major roads, including Narsinghpur, Sohna Road, Kadipur and the Delhi-Jaipur Highway service lane near Basai, remained blocked for hours as many vehicles broke down after getting stuck in the floods, leaving commuters stuck in long queues.Officials from Gurugram Municipal Corporation, Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority and traffic police worked throughout the night to drain water and control traffic.The city’s drainage system came under pressure after it received 83 mm of rain on Tuesday and 32 mm on Wednesday.

Maharashtra is continuously battling the wrath of monsoon.

Heavy rain continues to lash large parts of Maharashtra, where more than 50 people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents so far this monsoon. After several days of continuous rain, Mumbai had a cloudy morning with relatively light rainfall.According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the city recorded:

  • Island City – 14.21 mm
  • Eastern Suburbs – 39.37 mm
  • Western Suburbs – 28.85 mm in last 24 hours.

The IMD has predicted intermittent light to moderate rain during the day with isolated heavy falls accompanied by lightning and gusty winds. Public transport largely returned to normal, although suburban trains continued to run five to ten minutes behind schedule.Western Railway officials confirmed that there was no waterlogging between Vasai Road and Virar after several days of disruption. However, Mumbai-Pune train services are facing delays following the recent landslide in the Bhor Ghat section.Civic officials also said that Tulsi Lake, one of Mumbai’s seven drinking water reservoirs, started overflowing after heavy rainfall in its catchment area.

Flood water washed away 3,000 LPG cylinders in Raigarh

In Maharashtra’s Raigad district, around 3,000 LPG cylinders were washed away after a protective wall of HPCL Patalganga LPG bottling plant collapsed due to heavy rains.Videos circulated on social media showed hundreds of cylinders floating in the swollen Patalganga river, drawing large crowds of onlookers.Officials said flood waters caused by incessant rains breached the boundary walls of the plant, causing the strong current to wash away the cylinders into the Patalganga river and Kharpada creek.

Three killed in Thane, hundreds evacuated

Monsoon-related incidents have claimed three lives and forced nearly 800 people to flee their homes in Thane district over the past week.According to the district administration, deaths have been reported from Thane city, Ambernath and Mira Bhayandar, while 11 people have been injured in various rain-related incidents this season.In the latest incident, two people, including a teenage girl, were injured by lightning in Murbad taluka on Wednesday. Officials said that both are undergoing treatment and are out of danger. Authorities are also searching for two boys who drowned in separate incidents in Bhiwandi earlier this week.

Heavy rain continues in Kerala

Heavy rain continued throughout the day across Kerala, forcing the IMD to issue an orange alert for Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts. Yellow alert was also issued for Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kannur and Kasaragod.The weather department said the orange alert indicates very heavy rainfall between 115 mm and 204 mm, while the yellow alert indicates rainfall between 64 mm and 115 mm. Due to heavy rains, trees were uprooted and houses were damaged in many districts.

Death toll rises in Wayanad landslide

Rescue teams recovered one more body from a landslide-hit tunnel construction site in Wayanad, taking the death toll to five. ANI reported that four people were missing.On July 7, a landslide occurred at the Anakkompoyil-Meppadi tunnel project near Kallady, burying workers under several feet of soil and debris.Anmol Dodrai, a laborer from Khunti district of Jharkhand, was also among those killed. His mortal remains were airlifted to Ranchi before being taken to his native village. NDRF personnel and other rescue agencies continued to search for the missing workers amid dense mud and large stones.

Red alert for Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand also received heavy rainfall, causing landslides and widespread waterlogging. An abandoned building was damaged by a landslide near Kaddukhal on National Highway 707A in Tehri Garhwal as excavation work had destabilized the hill.Nearby restaurants, roadside kiosks and temporary worker shelters had already been evacuated as a precautionary measure, officials said. Meanwhile, Haridwar witnessed severe flooding following incessant rain overnight.IMD has issued a red alert for Haridwar and Pauri Garhwal for the next three hours, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall over the areas including:

  • Mangalore
  • Khanpur
  • Gumkhaal
  • dugadda
  • Kotdwar
  • sister-in-law

Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and stay away from rivers, streams and landslide-prone areas.

Rescue work continues due to building collapse in Pune

Rescue teams pulled out two more survivors from the debris of a collapsed building at a waste management plant in Pimpri Chinchwad near Pune, taking the number of people rescued to nine. According to PTI, the three-storey building collapsed on Wednesday after it was hit by a huge garbage dump.This operation is being jointly conducted by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Indian Army, Fire Brigade and local administration. Officials said rescue efforts are underway to locate those still trapped.

IMD has predicted widespread heavy rainfall over the entire Northeast till July 14.According to the Meteorological Department:

  • Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Assam and Meghalaya during July 10-14, with extremely heavy falls at isolated places.
  • There is a possibility of heavy rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh during the same period.
  • There is a possibility of heavy rain at isolated places in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

Visuals show that the swollen Brahmaputra river has triggered severe erosion in the Mohanaghat area in Assam’s Dibrugarh, prompting authorities to initiate protective measures.

Heavy rain forecast in Nilgiris of Tamil Nadu

IMD has predicted heavy rain with strong winds in Nilgiri district. Moderate rain is also expected over the Western Ghats districts, while Chennai is likely to see generally cloudy sky with isolated light rain. Officials have advised residents of sensitive hilly areas to remain alert against landslides, falling trees and waterlogging.The weather department has also issued a marine warning for fishermen in the Andaman Sea between July 10 and July 12, predicting wind speed up to 55 kmph and rough sea conditions.IMD said scattered rains are expected over Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh and Punjab on July 10, with the intensity of rain gradually reducing after the current spell. However, isolated heavy rainfall is likely to continue over many parts of North, West and Northeast India in the next few days.State officials have urged people to avoid waterlogging on roads, stay away from weak structures and trees during the storm, keep an eye on weather updates and follow advisories issued by the administration.
