Delhi Rains LIVE: Two trees were uprooted on Raja Dhir Singh Marg in southeast Delhi’s East of Kailash on Thursday, disrupting traffic in the area, according to the Delhi Fire Service (DFS).

No one was injured in the two incidents, news agency PTI reported.

The DFS received a call around 3.40 am that a tree had collapsed near the ISKCON temple on Raja Dhir Singh Marg. A team was rushed to the spot, an official said.

Kerala Minister A P Anilkumar told reporters here that the body was recovered from zone 1 of the search area in the morning, according to news agency PTI.

“Searches will be carried out in zones 1 and 2 of the area. Will be focusing search operations near the river also,” he said.

Weather LIVE Updates: Amateur weatherman Navdeep Dahiya said in a post on X Delhi-NCR was entering a “massive rainfall event” over the next 24 hours as the region lies in the western quadrant of a low-pressure area.

According to him, the next 12 hours would be the most crucial, with consistent light to moderate rain punctuated by frequent heavy downpours.

He said eastern parts of the NCR, including Noida, Ghaziabad, north and east Delhi, were likely to bear the brunt of the system and could receive up to 200 mm of rainfall, while central, west and south Delhi, along with Faridabad, may receive between 100 mm and 150 mm.

Gurugram could see 70 mm to 150 mm of rainfall. Dahiya also cautioned residents against venturing outdoors unless necessary, warning of widespread waterlogging, particularly across east NCR and adjoining parts of Delhi.

Delhi rain LIVE: Several parts of Delhi-NCR, particularly Uttar Pradesh’s Noida, Ghaziabad, received nonstop heavy overnight rainfall that continued on Thursday morning, causing severe waterlogging and slow movement of traffic as a result.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for all parts of Delhi, warning of extremely heavy rainfall, while an orange alert was sounded for parts Ghaziabad, Noida, Meerut and Gurugram, with more intense showers expected through the day.

The district administration appealed to any citizens to immediately hand them over to HPCL, the nearest HPCL dealer, the Tahsildar’s Office at Khalapur, the Tahsildar’s Office at Pen, or the office of the Sub-Divisional Officer, Pen.

Delhi rain LIVE: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said several parts of Delhi-NCR recorded moderate to heavy rainfall between 8:30 am on July 8 and 6:00 am on July 9.

In Delhi, Mehrauli received the highest rainfall at 83 mm, followed by Lodhi Road (79 mm), Pusa (73 mm), Chhatarpur (68 mm), Mayur Vihar (66 mm) and Janakpuri (62 mm). Other areas that recorded significant rainfall include Narayana (57 mm), Pragati Maidan (46 mm), Najafgarh (42 mm), Mungeshpur (40 mm), Jharoda Kalan (33 mm) and Jafarpur (6 mm).

In Ghaziabad, Kamla Nehru Nagar recorded 143 mm of rainfall, the highest in the NCR region during the period, while Hindon received 53 mm.

Meanwhile, Gurugram recorded comparatively lower rainfall, with North CAP University receiving 27 mm and KVK logging 21 mm, according to the IMD.

Residents said that with power supply remaining disrupted for up to three days in several localities, not only work from home but also water supply and essential services in housing societies were severely affected.

Employees staying in Hinjewadi, Wakad, Ravet, Punawale, Kiwale, Marunji, Jambhe, Nere, Kasarsai and nearby areas were among the worst affected by the outages, with power supply remaining unavailable from around 9 am to nearly 6 pm in some areas on Tuesday.

Delhi rain LIVE: Senior Aam Aadmi Party leader (AAP) and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the MCD (Municipal Corporation of Delhi) Ankush Narang criticised the BJP government over Delhi’s recurring flooding, saying the “hollow” claims of the party have been exposed.

He said that despite all four engines of governance in Delhi being under the BJP, the MCD and PWD (Public Works Department) have failed to clean the drains, exposing the hollowness of the BJP’s claims that 90% of desilting had been completed, news agency ANI reported.

Addressing the media, AAP MCD LoP said, “Delhi has witnessed only three spells of rain so far this monsoon. The first lasted barely five minutes, the second around twenty minutes, and today’s spell lasted about fifteen minutes. Yet all three have exposed the complete collapse of the BJP government’s preparedness. During the first spell, Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital was submerged. On Tuesday, the entire city was flooded, and today, once again, Delhi has been brought to a standstill. Reports of waterlogging are pouring in from Sangam Vihar and every lane and locality across the capital. The entire city has been turned into a sea.”
