Gangamma’s 17-year-old son opposed the relationship and argued with his mother and her boyfriend. Police believe teen became a hindrance to couple’s relationship

The case took a dramatic turn after Gangamma died under suspicious circumstances on Sunday. However, relatives allege that he died after being taken into police custody for questioning.

A woman in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool district allegedly killed her teenage son with the help of her lover, buried the body secretly and then filed a missing complaint to divert suspicion. The crime remained hidden for almost 18 months before the truth was revealed by the Special Investigation Team (SIT). Just hours after the murder case came to light, the accused mother also died under suspicious circumstances, adding another twist to the already sensational case.

According to investigators, Gangamma, a resident of Badinehal village in Kouthalam mandal of Kurnool, lived with her two sons and daughter after the death of her husband Chinnamallaiah in a road accident several years ago. Police say that later he contacted J. of Adoni Mandal. Developed relations with a relative named Dargappa, a resident of Hosalli village.

Gangamma’s elder son, 17-year-old Veeresh, was reportedly opposed to the relationship and often argued with both his mother and Dargappa. Investigators believe the teen had become an obstacle in the couple’s relationship.

Murder, burial and a missing person’s complaint

Police allege that in November 2024, Gangamma and Dargappa murdered Veeresh inside his house. To destroy evidence, they allegedly wrapped the body in a blanket, took it on a motorcycle and buried it in a nearby cremation ground.

A few days later, on November 11, 2024, Gangamma reportedly approached the Kouthalam police station and lodged a missing complaint, claiming that her son had gone missing. Despite investigation, the local police were unable to solve the case at that time.

The High Court petition was successful

The case took a dramatic turn when Gangamma later approached the Andhra Pradesh High Court alleging that the police had failed to properly investigate her son’s disappearance.

According to police sources, they were reportedly advised that families of missing persons may receive compensation under certain circumstances and sought legal intervention.

Taking the matter seriously, the High Court directed the CID to submit a detailed report of Veeresh’s disappearance within two weeks. Following the order, an SIT led by CID officials began a fresh investigation.

Within days, investigators reportedly uncovered inconsistencies in Gangamma’s statements and added evidence pointing to the murder.

skeleton recovered from crematorium

Based on the information received during the investigation, the police on Sunday arrested J. Hosalli reached a cremation ground in the village and took out the skeletal remains, which are believed to be those of Veeresh.

Family members reportedly identified the remains using items recovered from the burial site, including blankets, ropes and iron rods. Forensic samples have been sent for scientific examination to confirm the identity of the victim.

According to preliminary findings, investigators have concluded that Gangamma and Daragappa were responsible for the murder.

Another twist: Mother dies amid custodial charges

The case took another dramatic turn after Gangamma died under suspicious circumstances on Sunday. After falling ill, he was initially admitted to a hospital in Adoni and later shifted to a private hospital in Kurnool, where he died during treatment, police said.

However, relatives and villagers have alleged that Gangamma died after being taken for questioning by the police and have alleged custodial death. They have raised questions about the circumstances surrounding his death and the manner in which his last rites were performed amid heavy police security.

Police have registered a case of suspicious death and said the investigation is ongoing.

Meanwhile, the other accused in the case, Dargappa, has been arrested and sent to judicial custody.

The case has triggered widespread shock across the Kurnool district, with the alleged murder, missing person complaint, High Court intervention and mysterious death of the accused mother, all raising serious questions which investigators are still trying to answer.
