Speaking about her character Alison, Morena Baccarin said, “Alison is, I guess, much like myself, a no-BSer. She really doesn`t beat around the bush. She`s somebody that`s fiercely protective of her family and really very driven to be a good person, a good member of the community. I really loved how strong Alison was, how she wasn`t a damsel in distress, that she was fighting for her family and her survival and her kid. I think it`s very interesting to see a very sort of, quote unquote, normal family going through extraordinary circumstances in a way that a lot of people in the world go through and don`t necessarily get highlighted.”

Talking about the film’s themes, director Ric Roman Waugh said, “Greenland: Migration is the next chapter of the Garrity family. It explores survival, legacy, and what we pass on to future generations. It’s about not just surviving, but also what we leave behind.”
Roman Griffin Davis shared what drew him to the sequel, “I enjoyed the first film, but what interested me more was my character’s journey. It was also an opportunity to work with a great team. Disaster films resonate because they reflect extreme versions of real-world struggles.”

It is no longer only the anguish of imprisonment and separation, but a looming fear shaped by new and uncertain scenarios following the approval of an Israeli law allowing the execution of Palestinian prisoners in late March 2026.
Palestinians mark Palestinian Prisoners’ Day annually on April 17. This year, it comes amid an unprecedented surge in the number of detainees and worsening conditions.
According to prisoners’ advocacy groups, more than 9,600 Palestinians are currently held in Israeli prisons as of early April 2026, compared with about 5,250 before the war – an increase of nearly 83 percent. They include 350 children, and more than 3,530 administrative detainees held without charge.
More than 100 prisoners have also died in custody since the war began in October 2023, amid reports of a severe deterioration in detention conditions.
But now the fear is that Israel will attempt to execute Palestinian prisoners. The Israeli parliament passed a law on March 30 allowing the death penalty to be implemented, but only against those convicted in a military court of killing Israelis.
In practice, that means West Bank Palestinians, as Israelis are tried in civilian courts, but there is also discussion of a separate tribunal for Palestinians from Gaza, for which the Israeli right-wing is likely to push the use of the death penalty.
Israeli legislators, including National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, celebrated the death penalty ruling, while Israel was internationally condemned for what critics perceive to be yet another example of Israeli apartheid against Palestinians.

Detention
Three of Inaam’s sons, 30-year-old Mahmoud, 27-year-old Alaa, and 24-year-old Diaa, were detained on December 15, 2023, after a days-long Israeli attack on al-Shifa Hospital, which was near the house they had been living in.
The family had endured a five-day-long siege before Israeli forces stormed their house amid heavy gunfire.
“There was no time to think,” Inaam says. “They were firing bullets at our feet, and the children were screaming around me … I just wanted to hide them behind me.”
Mahmoud, Alaa, and Diaa were bound and blindfolded before being taken away by the Israeli soldiers. Inaam fled south with the other women and the children of the family, but her husband, Naeem, who was 65 at the time, refused to run away.
Ten days later, his body was found nearby.

Civilians
Inaam explains that her children are civilians. Mahmoud is a father of six children, his youngest born during the war. Alaa had completed his law degree, while Diaa was preparing to start life after high school.
Both Alaa and Diaa were engaged.
“We were planning to marry them in October, the same month the war began … but it never happened,” Inaam says, before adding, “Their fiancees are still waiting.”
“My sons worked with their father at a petrol station we own, and they were living stable lives,” she says. “Why were they arrested?”
Inaam has had little information about her sons since they were arrested, and they were not released as part of any deal. The only way she learns anything about them is through fragments of information carried by released prisoners.
“Every piece of news, no matter how small, is like a thin thread I cling to, to remain certain that my sons are still alive,” Inaam says.
Through these indirect testimonies, Inaam has begun to form an incomplete picture of where her sons are being held.
Alaa and Diaa, the two engaged brothers, were transferred to Negev prison, while Mahmoud was reportedly seen in Ofer prison, although locations often change due to frequent transfers.

Fear of death penalty law
The news of the death penalty law passing has worried Inaam further.
Fighting back her emotions, she explains that she could bear the idea of hunger, suffering, or even torture in prison, but not this.
“They can endure hunger … we tell ourselves they can endure it. But execution? Not to that extent.”
Despite reassurances and interpretations suggesting the law targets a specific category of prisoners accused of killing Israelis, she cannot dismiss the possibility that it could affect her sons.
“Even those accused, how can a decision like execution be issued?” she asks.
“Just the fact that such a law exists and is accepted makes any mother in my place unable to feel any peace while her son is in prison.”
In her sons’ absence, Inaam tries to fill the void as best as she can. She takes care of Mahmoud’s children – her grandchildren – and looks for ways to keep their father present in their lives.
“I raise them and teach them the Quran,” she says, explaining that she keeps herself occupied with this as a gift for Mahmoud, who would be happy to see his children memorising the Quran, as he had wished before his detention.
For Inaam, the only solution for her sons and all prisoners is what she describes as a “global stance” to pressure Israel to reverse what she calls unjust decisions against prisoners.
“The whole world should reject this,” she says.
“A prisoner has the right to live, the right to dignity … what is happening to prisoners is something insane … something the human mind cannot comprehend.”

Zarine Khan`s mother`s death
Zareen`s mother, Parveen Khan, passed away in Mumbai at the age of 65 after suffering from a prolonged illness. Her last rites were held at the Versova Muslim Kabrastan in Andheri West, Mumbai.
Confirming the unfortunate news, Zareen`s team had shared a statement that read, “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji`un (Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return). This is to inform that our beloved Ms Parveen Khan, mother of Zareen Khan & Sana Khan, has departed peacefully to her heavenly abode on the 8th of April. May Allah grant her the highest place in Jannatul Firdaus. Ameen.”

Ceasefire, diplomacy drive sentiment
Markets were buoyed by signs of diplomatic progress, with US President Donald Trump indicating that Washington and Tehran could resume talks soon. “We’re going to see what happens. Supply disruption concerns remain

When Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi stood up to speak in the Lok Sabha on Friday, he did not start with the argument of losing south-seats, which has been in the news since the introduction of the delimitation bill linked to the women’s quota amendment. He started with a different charge altogether.

“This is not a bill for women. It has nothing to do with women empowerment,” she said in the House.
He then offered what he described as a “simple test”.
“Bring back that old bill right now and we will help you pass it for implementation from this very moment,” he said.
The “old bill” he was referring to Nari Shakti Vandan Act It has already been passed unanimously by both houses in 2023. It provides for 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.
It is to be implemented after the completion of the first census after its commencement. This would mean that the much-delayed census that is being conducted now is likely to end in 2027. After that census, there will be a Delimitation Commission to decide on the number of seats and the maps. This will move women’s quota implementation beyond the 2029 elections.
Now, three new bills – Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, Delimitation Bill 2026, and UT Laws (Amendment) Bill 2026 – Remove ‘latest census’ condition.
These bills propose a system by which the government, with a simple majority in Parliament, can decide to use any census; And order delimitation for Lok Sabha and Assembly seats.
Government statements show that at present this scheme is limited to the Lok Sabha only.
The government has argued that for now this change – to increase seats by at least 50% – will lead to quicker implementation of the women’s quota. Suppose, seats increased from 543 to 816; And an additional one-third may be reserved for women.
But the opposition has opposed it Instead of this, 2023 women’s quota law can be implemented. Congress leader Sonia Gandhi has said the party is fine with implementing it even in the current House strength of 543, without increasing it to 816, or a maximum of 850, as provided for in the bill.

There are genuine concerns, especially in the south with low population-growth states and among caste groups who want to have their say before any delimitation.
The logic is straightforward – that there are “No dispute” With 33% women quota; But do not rush into delimitation without addressing complex questions.
This is the first census that is counting all castes after almost 100 years – SCs and STs have already been counted. Scheduled Castes and Tribes (SC, ST) already get some quota in Parliament and Assemblies.
This census data may impact what and how much is given to Other Backward Classes (OBCs). As per the estimates till now, they form the largest part of India’s population.

Rahul Gandhi had clearly said about this in the Lok Sabha: “What they (the government) are trying to do is to avoid giving power and representation to my OBC brothers and sisters.”
“The government is trying to ensure that caste census has nothing to do with representation for the next 10-15 years,” he alleged.
He linked it to a specific chronology:
Union Cabinet approved caste census As part of the ongoing national census – the first such exercise since 1931 – last year.
But the delimitation exercise, as now proposed by the latest bills, will use the 2011 census and not the new data that will arrive in 2026-27.
Amit Shah has promised that there will be only 50% increase in seats, there will be no change in the share of the states. But the bill doesn’t say so.
The Delimitation Bill 2026 states that “the latest published census on the date of constitution of the Delimitation Commission” will be used when the government of the day can take a decision. Say, at the moment it means 2011 Analysis By think tank PRS India.
Samajwadi Party MP and former Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav, who belongs to the OBC community, said the same in Parliament on Thursday.
“They are running away from the census because…the demand for reservation will increase,” he said, adding, “When we listen to the Prime Minister (Narendra Modi), he says he is from a backward class. But when it comes to reservation, I would like to hear the government say how much will be reserved for OBCs.” Amit Shah again underlined on Friday that PM Modi belongs to the OBC group.
constitutional difference exists
The demand for OBC quota even within women’s reservation is not new. In fact, this is one of the primary reasons why women’s reservation remained blocked in Parliament for years. The 81st Constitutional Amendment Bill for 33% women’s reservation was first introduced in 1996 under Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda. It was discussed again in 1997 and 1998, but it collapsed each time.
A 2008 bill passed the Rajya Sabha examination in 2010 during the Congress-led UPA tenure, but was never voted on in the Lok Sabha because political consensus could not be reached.
This was due, consistently, to the insistence by parties representing OBC communities – such as the Samajwadi Party of UP and Bihar and the Rashtriya Janata Dal – that a sub-quota for OBC women be included.
Women are not a homogenous group, and caste and other factors affect different classes of women differently, she has argued – as have political scientists.
The legal issue is that this demand for OBC quota cannot be fulfilled at present.
The Constitution of India provides for only 15% and 7.5% reservation for Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST). It was recommended by a joint parliamentary committee in the 1990s obc reservation Women’s quota will not be considered at all “if the Constitution is amended to allow OBC quota”.
No amendment has ever been made to the OBC quota in Parliament and Assemblies. Because, at a minimum, it requires data. In particular, caste census data which would establish the demographic basis for such a claim.
why sequence matters
Last time a comprehensive caste census was conducted in India 1931,under the British.
After independence, Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru decided to exclude caste-related data from the decennial census, arguing that it would reinforce social divisions. Counting of SC and ST continued, but counting of OBC stopped at the national level.
In 1980, Mandal Commission – Working without hard data – It is estimated that OBCs constitute 52% of India’s population. That figure became the basis for the 27% OBC reservation in government jobs implemented in 1990 and related decisions thereafter.
State-level surveys conducted in recent years suggest that the data of more than 50% OBCs may actually be correct. Bihar’s 2023 caste survey found that such classes constitute 63% of the state’s population, while the share of the general (“upper caste”) category is just 15.5%. In local level elections, OBCs have got quota in Bihar and some other places. Telangana recently released its count, which showed OBCs at over 60%.
This was the opposition’s argument for a nationwide caste census. Last year, before the Modi regime softened, Rahul Gandhi was demanding caste census.
“Detailed caste data could strengthen the demand for proportional representation, especially from OBC communities, making seat redistribution far more competitive,” it said. Manoj K JhaA professor who is a Rajya Sabha MP from RJD.
Political scientist Zoya Hasan has argued that the BJP, which has carefully electorally clustered its upper caste base with some OBC groups, “reluctantly agreed to the caste census”.
He said the 2011 census is “safe” for the BJP as the basis for delimitation. WireBecause it does not contain OBC data. Caste enumeration, as is being done in the current census, could “empower OBCs to demand more and possibly look beyond the BJP”.
He has said, “This could reshape political calculations and potentially change the existing balance of power.”
what the bill doesn’t say
Home Minister Amit Shah has told the Lok Sabha that the Union Cabinet has already approved the caste enumeration, and such data will be collected in the second phase of the ongoing census.
But the delimitation exercise, as the bill is written, will use the 2011 census.

Congress’s Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday attacked Amit Shah, saying “everyone knows” his plan.

Western Railway edged out Republicans Orange 3-2 in a women’s elite league match of the 45th Willingdon Catholic Gymkhana rink hockey tournament at Santacruz recently.
Mariana netted a fine brace for WR while Anupa Barla added the third goal. For Republicans, Manvi Jadhav and Kashish Shaikh scored a goal each. In another match, Sports Authority of India (SAI) beat Central Railway by the odd goal in three. Dechamma PG and Nikku Gurjar scored for SAI while H Lalruatfeli pulled one back for SAI.
In a men’s veterans tie, Ave Maria beat Span FC 2-1. Prasad Shetty and Andre Buthello scored for Ave Maria while Gavin Vandrine scored for Span FC.

An Instagram-user called Kumar Gowda KS posted a video taken at his birthday party. The video shows Shiva, all smiles, dressed in a striped shirt and jeans. As FA9LA from Dhurandhar plays on speakers, the actor breaks into a jig. He recreates Akshaye’s viral moves from the song, sporting a wide smile. His friends whistle and join him as he expertly does the adaab. Later in the video, he also holds his wife Geetha’s hand, bringing her into the revelry. Numerous people can be seen whipping out their phones to record the moment.
This is not the first time Shiva has shown his fondness for Dhurandhar. When Dhurandhar 2 hit screens on March 19, he wrote, “Durandhar: The Revenge is absolutely fantastic! Loved every bit of it. @RanveerOfficial is brilliant, and the music by @shashwatology, especially the use of vintage songs leaves a lasting impact. Huge respect to @AdityaDharFilms for his conviction and craft. The lengths a soldier goes for patriotism makes the soul of the film. Congratulations to the entire team (clapping emoji) #Dhurandhar2TheRevenge.” He also spoke about the film in interviews.

(folded hands, red heart and Indian flag emojis),” commented Aditya under the post. Dhurandhar was released in the theatre in December 2025, and Dhurandhar 2 in March. Both films have collectively grossed over ₹3000 crore worldwide, making it the highest-grossing franchise in India.
Recent work
Shiva played cameos in the 2025 films Veera Chandrahasa and Firefly, in addition to starring in 45. The actor underwent surgery for bladder cancer in the US at the end of 2024. He also underwent chemotherapy while shooting for some of his films. Now that he is cancer-free and has returned to Bengaluru, the actor is going full throttle for 2026.
Peddi in Telugu, Jailer 2 in Tamil, Uttarakaanda, Dad, Gummadi Narsaiah, Bail and 666 Operation Dream Theatre in Kannada are just a few of the films he has lined up. He also has Survivor: A Hero’s Documentary, which will reportedly detail the 63-year-old’s fight against cancer.
