Exclusive | Mandar Chandwadkar`s favourite TMKOC track is with Disha Vakani

The recent track of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has kept fans hooked, especially with Atmaram Bhide’s shocking decision to resign as society secretary. In an exclusive chat, Mandar Chandwadkar, who plays the beloved character, opened up about the emotional storyline, his approach to acting, and memorable moments from the show.

Mandar gets candid about the current track

Speaking about the ongoing track, Mandar emphasized the seriousness of Bhide’s decision. “This time it is pretty real and serious. Because Bhide has always been a character of principle, and he would never do something which will go against society or against his principles. So, this time he is quite serious about his resignation. And the kind of false statements which Popatlal has done over the past few days, he is not admitting at all. And he is not ready to accept that he has done any kind of mistake. And though he has all kinds of proofs that he is not guilty, but still he prefers to be aloof and he prefers to give resignation rather than proving himself right.”

He further highlighted how Bhide’s decision reflects the often-overlooked challenges of being a society secretary. “The main thing is that the secretary`s job is an honorary job. He is not paid for it basically. He is doing so much things and he has done so much for society. He has actually tolerated the tantrums of each and every member. Over the years. So, now he is given up basically. He doesn`t want to listen to any kind of false things against him. After doing honorary things also he has to listen from everyone. It is very easy to blame it on someone. I really appreciate the job of the secretary or chairman of the society. Whoever the people are, they do this honorary job because they are not paid for it. But still they do it passionately in order to run the society properly. So, now everyone has to understand the responsibility and the importance of that particular post.”

His favourite track from the show

Despite being part of the show for nearly two decades, Mandar shared that he continues to find joy and freshness in his performances. Reveals he doesn`t find playing Bhide monotonous at any point, “Not at all. I am so lucky. On a daily basis I get to perform in a different way. This is my habit to improvise the scene. I really find that particular opportunity to improvise the scene. We writers write scenes in such a way that we try to add humour to it. We try to make it more humorous. But I really don`t find any kind of monotony. I have never found this kind of thing in the last 17-18 years. I really look forward to come to the show even today and perform the scene.”

Recalling one of his favourite moments, the actor spoke about a scene he would love to recreate. “There is one scene I would really like to redo it again. When we were doing the sitti wala scene where the whistle gets stuck in my throat and Daya Bhabhi comes to rescue. I still remember the episode number. I would really like to perform the same way because it was the most hilarious scene of the day. I really enjoyed a lot while performing it.”

With an emotionally charged storyline and Mandar Chandwadkar’s insights, the current track promises to keep audiences invested as Bhide’s journey takes a serious turn.

Saudi crude shipments to China halve! Strait of Hormuz disruption continues to choke energy supplies; here's what's happening

Saudi Arabia is set to significantly scale back its oil supplies to China next month, with traders indicating that shipments could fall to nearly half of the volumes seen in April as the Middle East tensions continue to intensify and disrupt energy flow across the country.Chinese buyers are expected to receive around 20 million barrels in May, half compared to 40 million barrels which are scheduled for April, traders familiar with the allocations told Bloomberg. The shift comes amid major upheaval in regional energy logistics following the Iran war, which has effectively shut down the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial passage for crude exports. Saudi Arabia has been redirecting shipments through its Red Sea terminal at Yanbu, but the alternative route is unable to handle the full volume that previously moved through the Persian Gulf. The war, now in its second month, has yet to show signs of de-escalation. Efforts to reach a breakthrough in talks between the United States and Iran in Pakistan over the weekend did not yield an agreement. Consequently, US President Donald Trump threatened to blockade the Strait of Hormuz, preventing all maritime traffic from entering and exiting Iranian ports from 10 am Washington time on Monday.Meanwhile in Saudi Arabia, export capacity from Yanbu stands at about 5 million barrels a day, falling short of the roughly 7.2 million barrels a day shipped prior to the conflict, most of which moved through Gulf-based infrastructure. Traders added that Asian refiners are currently being supplied only with Arab Light crude through the Red Sea route.Pricing benchmarks linked to Dubai and Oman crude have become unstable as the conflict has reduced the availability of key oil grades used to set their value.Meanwhile, with the Strait of Hormuz effectively disrupted amid tensions with Iran, oil markets opened sharply higher, pushing prices back above the $100-per-barrel mark. US crude oil (WTI) rose 8% to $104.24 per barrel, while Brent crude, the global benchmark, gained 7% to $102.29 in early trading.

Rajpal Yadav reveals he learnt about Om Shaanti Om misunderstanding on Billu set

Rajpal Yadav is back to the movies after a tough start to the year. The actor spent some time in Tihar Jail in a cheque bounce case. Now, he is looking forward to his upcoming releases, with Priyadarshan’s Bhooth Bangla being a major one. The film, co-starring Akshay Kumar, will be released in theatres on April 17.

Rajpal Yadav on Om Shaanti Om

Ahead of the release of Bhooth Bangla, Rajpal Yadav spoke about the roles he regretted missing out on. He revealed that he lost out on a role in Om Shanti Om due to a misunderstanding with lead actor Shah Rukh Khan. He added that he only learned about the issue when Billu went on floors. The Priyadarshan directorial starred Irrfan Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. Rajpal revealed that he was supposed to play the titular character in the film, but the role eventually went to Irrfan Khan.

In an interaction with Zoom, Rajpal said, “Billu Barber ka pura production dekhte the Juhi Chawla ke brother. Voh shaam ko bethe the hum toh mujhe gale mile aur bole bhai (SRK) se mil lena. Bhai aapko bahut pyaar karte hain. Jab hum Kal Ho Naa Ho main kaam kiya, toh Shah Rukh bhai ne bola tha kabhi ek lamba, koi badiya track karenge kyunki ek scene main itna maza aaya. Maine kaha main toh dupehr main hi mila tha, Unhone kaha thoda kuch confusion hai. Toh maine kaha kya? Bole voh role likhwaya tha unhone aapke liye aur voh aapne mana kardiya keh ke time nahi hai (The entire production of Billu Barber was being handled by Juhi Chawla’s brother. One evening, he met me, hugged me, and said, `You should meet bhai. He loves you a lot. When we had worked together in Kal Ho Naa Ho, Shah Rukh Khan had told me that someday we would do a longer, substantial track together because he had enjoyed doing that one scene with me so much. I said I had met him only that afternoon. Then he said there seemed to be some confusion. I asked what happened. He told me that he had specifically asked for a role to be written for me, but apparently I had declined it saying I did not have the time).”

How Rajpal sorted things with SRK

Rajpal recalled that he immediately called his manager to find out if anything like that had happened. He said, “Unhe bhi pata nahi tha. aur mujhe bhi nahi pata tha. Pata laga ki vahan pe kisi ne bitching karke aur Om Shanti Om ke liye meri tasveer dusri pesh kardi. Pata bhi nahi SRK ko aur mujhe bhi pata nahi. Toh yeh Bollywood hai ismein aise 10-20 kisse ho jaate hain. Aur main aur Shah Rukh Khan gale mile uske baad jaise koi lafda hi nahi (He did not know about it, and neither did I. It turned out that someone had been bi**hing there, and I was presented negatively in front of Shah Rukh bhai for Om Shanti Om. Neither Shah Rukh Khan knew about it, nor did I. So this is Bollywood, 10 to 20 such incidents happen here. After that, Shah Rukh Khan and I hugged it out as if there had never been any issue at all).”

Meanwhile, Rajpal Yadav’s next is Bhooth Bangla with Akshay Kumar, Tabu, Paresh Rawal, and Wamiqa Gabbi. Rajpal has acted in several films directed by Priyadarshan and has played some of the most memorable characters of his career in these films.

Indian stock exchanges will take a break next week, with trading suspended on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, to mark Dr Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Jayanti. Both the National Stock Exchange and the Bombay Stock Exchange will remain shut for most segments, as per the official holiday calendar.

Trading in the Equity Segment and the Equity Derivatives Segment will remain suspended throughout the day. The Currency Derivatives Segments, along with NDS-RST and Tri Party Repo segments, will also stay closed. Track Stock Market LIVE.

However, there will be partial activity in select segments. The Commodity Derivatives Segment and Electronic Gold Receipts (EGR) Segment will remain shut during the morning session from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, before reopening for the evening session starting 5:00 PM, the Mint reported.

Two holidays in April

April will see only two trading holidays this year. The first fell on April 3 for Good Friday, while the second – Ambedkar Jayanti on April 14 – will be the final market holiday for the month.

After this, markets will next remain closed on May 1 for Maharashtra Day.

Holidays so far, and what lies ahead

So far in 2026, Dalal Street has observed six holidays, including closures for Republic Day, Holi, Ram Navami, Mahavir Jayanti, and Good Friday.

Following Ambedkar Jayanti, nine more holidays are lined up for the rest of the year, including breaks for Maharashtra Day, Bakri Id, Muharram, Ganesh Chaturthi, Gandhi Jayanti, Dussehra, Diwali Balipratipada, Guru Nanak Jayanti, and Christmas.

Stock market update today

The upcoming holiday comes at a time when markets are already facing volatility. Indian equities opened sharply lower on Monday, tracking a surge in global oil prices after US-Iran talks failed to make progress.

At 9:15 AM, the 30-share Sensex dropped 2.08%, or 1,613.09 points, to 75,937.20. The Nifty 50 fell 1.92% to 23,589, while banking and midcap indices also slipped over 2%.

This decline follows a strong rally last week, when both benchmark indices surged about 6%. The surge was the best performance in over five years, prompted by the optimism around two-week US-Iran ceasefire.

But sentiment has since turned cautious after negotiations stalled and US President Donald Trump announced plans to begin a naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, raising geopolitical risks.

Brent crude prices jumped around 7% to $102 per barrel, adding to investor concerns.

“How this naval blockade, which in effect will be a US blockade of Iran’s blockade, will play out remains to be seen. There can be dramatic developments on the geopolitical front and consequently on markets also,” V.K. Vijayakumar, chief investment strategist at Geojit Investments Ltd., said over an email. “The ideal strategy in this ultra-uncertain situation is to wait and watch.”

MUMBAI: Royals Challengers Bengaluru’s 18-run win over Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday night tasted a tad bit more sweeter for Krunal Pandya. Enjoying a special outing against his former franchise, the all-rounder, who unveiled his new hairstyle – Jamaican braids which fans said was perhaps inspired by England pacer Jofra Archer – enjoyed getting the better of his brother Hardik Pandya. Revelling in a moment which will perhaps give him the bragging rights at home for a few days, Krunal quipped that it was always going to be a case of “one Pandya had to win.”

Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW!In a high-scoring match, RCB posted a massive total of 240 for four, before restricting MI to 222 for four. On a flat surface which had nothing it for the bowlers, Krunal delivered a tight spell of one for 26 in four overs, taking the crucial wicket of India’s T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav, who was looking dangerous while batting on 33 before he swept the left-arm spinner to deep backward square leg. Krunal thus helped RCB derail MI’s inning in the middle overs, which proved to be decisive in the end. At a venue he is well-versed with, Krunal once again showed why he is a valuable asset for RCB.“Wankhede has always been close to my heart. I have played here for six years and was lucky enough to win three trophies in that time,” Krunal said at the post-match press conference.“So it has always been special coming over here, and as I said last year as well, eventually the points were coming home only. One Pandya had to win, and I guess I was the lucky one in that,” he added.Since moving to RCB from Lucknow Super Giants in 2025, Krunal has become a reliable figure in their setup. He played an important role in their title-winning campaign last season, taking 17 wickets in 15 matches@22.29 and contributing 109 runs@18.16 with the bat lower down the order. That run included a brilliant, match-turning effort of two for 17 in four overs in the final against Punjab Kings. Named as the ‘Player of the Match’ Krunal took the wickets of Prabhsmiran Singh and Josh Inglis to turn the tide in RCB’s favour, Punjab Kings fell six runs short while chasing 191. In IPL 2026 so far, Krunal has taken five wickets@23.60, at an economy rate of 9.07 in four matches@ for the defending champions. Pandya’s spells have helped RCB gain control and win the battle of the middle overs. More than the numbers, it is his ability to step up in the big moments that stands out. The 35-year-old Baroda captain is the only cricketer to win the Player of the Match award in an IPL final twice.‘Don’t pre-plan bowling bouncers but want to be one step ahead of batters’One ‘surprise weapon’ which Krunal has successfully used against the batters is the bouncer – not a delivery usually associated with the spinners. Krunal said that he uses the delivery as per his gut feeling and to be one step ahead of the batters.“I have never shied away from trying different and new things because with the Impact Player rule, previously, you had No. 6 or 7 as all-rounders and batsmanship was quite different. But now there are pure batters (coming in) at No. 8 and plus the skill sets, young boys like Mukul (Choudhary) and Vaibhav (Sooryavanshi) are hitting from ball one consistently. As a bowler, I want to be one step ahead with the skillset and mental part as well.““I am glad that it is coming out well and hope that in this format, there are finger spinners who survive and who can take something out of it and do well. Because for (a) finger spinner with having flat tracks and eight batters, it has become very difficult,” Krunal added.Often left surprised with a spinner bowling the short quick ball, batters tend to leave the delivery alone. Krunal said that his bouncers are pre-planned, but instinctive. “I am someone who follows my gut. I don’t pre-plan that I want to bowl the fourth or fifth or sixth ball (as a) bouncer. There are days where I will bowl two bouncers back to back and suddenly I will bowl the first ball and the sixth ball,” he said.“But yeah, it is more sort of gut feeling when to bowl which ball and I just commit 100 per cent to that. People tend to speak a lot about my bouncers and the balls which looks quite different and funny…but I have always worked on the basics of my bowling and if you see I am tall and I have been able to get that bounce, I have (also) been able to get batsmen out with spin and deceiving in the flight. I don’t practise bowling bouncers much. It is just that I actually bowl in the game,” he explained. ‘Kohli should be fine’ Meanwhile, Krunal said that Virat Kohli should be “fine” after the batting superstar did not take field in the second half of the game owing to an ankle niggle. “I have not spoken to the physio yet but I think he will be fine. I guess (there is) nothing to worry,” Krunal said.
