New Delhi: Leading industry chambers on Friday welcomed the RBI decisions especially around the repo and cash reserve ratio (CRR) rates, saying that these measures would ensure a better balance between growth and inflation management.
They appreciated the calibrated steps undertaken by the central bank during its three-day Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting, including cutting the CRR significantly from 4.5 per cent to 4 per cent. “It will not only enhance the liquidity in the economy but also boost business sentiments as it signifies the futuristic softening of interest rates in the country,” PHDCCI President Hemant Jain said.
The MPC also decided to keep the repo rate unchanged at 6.5 per cent and to continue the alignment of inflation within the target while supporting growth, as India is well-positioned to benefit from the emerging trends. “The forward-looking guidance provided by RBI underscores its dedication to maintaining transparency and predictability in monetary policy,” said Jain.
According to Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Director General Chandrajit Banerjee, the 50-bps cut in CRR will help ensure the availability of additional resources for all productive sectors of the economy, especially in anticipation of a near-term tightening of systemic liquidity.
“This was a specific CII ask along with a request for moderation in headline interest rates. However, we draw satisfaction from the overall statement that the neutral stance has been maintained and with the anticipated easing of inflation, we can expect rate cuts in the foreseeable future,” said Banerjee.
Further, increasing the collateral-free agriculture loans from Rs 1.6 lakh to Rs 2 lakh will significantly help in improving the credit flow to the agriculture sector, thereby providing a strong impetus to the rural economy, said the leading industry chamber.
“Our forex reserves have been healthy. An increase in interest rate ceilings on FCNR (B) rates by 200 basis points is indeed a positive step as it will help boost the forex reserves further due to inflows of funds from the Indian diaspora,” Banerjee added.
The RBI’s announcement on the introduction of a new Secured Overnight Rupee Rate (SORR) would build a new interest rate derivative market. “This will bring greater transparency and improve the credibility of interest rate benchmarks. Besides, this measure would help in enhancing the trust of global investors in the Indian financial system,” said the CII DG.
The measures of “setting up a committee of experts to suggest a framework for responsible and ethical use of AI” and “setting up RBI podcast” will also help in addressing and protecting the interest of customers in the financial sector, according to the industry chambers. “We are hopeful that the economy will attain its high growth trajectory once again in the coming quarters,” Jain noted.

Lionel Messi and Inter Miami now know their path for next year’s Club World Cup. The host team – invited by FIFA to compete despite criticism from many in the football world – will play the tournament’s first match on June 15, against Egyptian club Al Ahly, as part of a group that will also feature Palmeiras and Porto.
Premier League champions Manchester City were drawn, at the event in Miami on Thursday evening, with Juventus, Wydad AC and Al Ain in Group G for next year’s expanded 32-team FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.
The tournament, featuring top teams from around the world, will be held in 12 stadiums around the country from June 15-July 13, and serve as a rehearsal for the 2026 World Cup co-hosted by the US, Mexico and Canada.
Miami were the penultimate team added to the tournament after winning the “Supporters’ Shield” for finishing top of the MLS standings in the regular season before losing in the opening round of the MLS playoffs last month.

Inter Miami’s Club World Cup inclusion draws criticism
The Florida-based club, as a representative of the host nation, gets the distinction of playing the first match, which will be staged at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.
“It’s about inclusivity, it’s about bringing clubs from all over the world, the 32 best clubs and best players from all over the world together,” FIFA President Gianni Infantino said.
Some would argue it is not the 32 “best” clubs. Inter Miami’s selection was widely panned by critics, the volume of that only rising after the team suffered a shock defeat in Round 1 of the MLS Cup playoffs to Atlanta United.
“There’s no controversy,” Inter Miami managing owner Jorge Mas said, before adding that the privilege of playing the opening match of the tournament at home is “a testament to our community, the soccer culture that’s here”.

MLS Commissioner Don Garber remarked: “There is no rule that said the MLS Cup winner needs to be in the Club World Cup. I have no interest in anything other than what I think is going to be best for the showcase, best for our league. I am supportive of the decision that FIFA made and I’m excited to put Miami and Seattle in a global media deal and be shown around the world.”
European champions Real Madrid will face Al Hilal in a potential showdown for former Paris Saint Germain teammates Kylian Mbappe and Neymar, respectively, if the Brazilian great remains with that club. Pachuca and Red Bull Salzburg complete Group H while Bayern Munich were placed in Group C along with Auckland City, Boca Juniors and Benfica.
Three-times European champions Inter Milan landed in Group E along with River Plate, Urawa Red Diamonds and Monterrey while PSG, who this year won a third consecutive French top-flight title, are in Group B with Atletico Madrid, Botafogo and Seattle Sounders.
Brazilian side Botafogo only secured the final spot in the tournament last week by winning their first Copa Libertadores title. Chelsea will begin Group D play against Leon before facing Flamengo and Esperance, while Group F is made up of Fluminense, Borussia Dortmund, Ulsan HD and Mamelodi Sundowns.
The US President-elect offers backing to Infantino
The draw, conducted by Italian World Cup winner and former Juventus great Alessandro Del Piero, included a recorded message from US President-elect Donald Trump in which he complimented FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
“The event is going to be incredible. I will try and be there. If I can I would, we’ll see what happens,” Trump said.
“But I just want to say you’re led by a man named Gianni. I just know him as Gianni and he’s a winner and he’s the president, and I’m the president.

Manchester City won the most recent Club World Cup in 2023 under the old format and sit fourth in the Premier League after being hit hard by injuries to key players such as Spanish midfielder and Ballon d’Or winner Rodri.
City, who this year won an unprecedented fourth straight English top-flight title, will face Wydad AC in their opening match and Al Ain before closing out the group stage against Juventus.
The final will be at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, the same stadium that will play host to the 2026 World Cup final.

Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang, the 10th-richest person in the US with a net worth of $127 billion will be able to pass on much of his fortune in the event of his death without paying around 40% of it in estate taxes, the New York Times reported.

This is likely to become one of the largest tax dodges in the US, saving his family around $8 billion, according to the report.
The US government’s estate tax revenue has barely changed since 2000, despite the wealth of the richest Americans having roughly quadrupled. If it had kept pace, it would have raised around $120 billion last year.
The missing revenue from the estate tax would be enough to both double the Justice Department’s budget as well as triple the federal funding for cancer and Alzheimer’s research.
However, Huang is not alone in doing this. Others include Blackstone Group’s Stephen A. Schwarzman, Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg and top executives at Google, Coinbase, Eli Lilly, Mastercard and Advanced Micro Devices, the report read.
The report attributes the easing of estate tax rules to the years of budget cuts plaguing the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS), estimating it would get worse with the Republicans coming to power.
The rule as of today is that a married couple can pass on around $27 million tax free, but anything more is to be taxed at 40%.
How did Jensen Huang avoid paying so much taxes?
With Nvidia’s shares having soared over 800% since 2022, Huang and his wife Lori set up a financial vehicle known as an irrevocable trust and moved 584,000 Nvidia shares worth $7 million (at that time) into it.
This was an intentionally defective grantor trust which in the US, is nicknamed “I Dig It.” It circumvents estate tax, gift tax, and even capital gains tax.
Thus, the tax bill for those $7 million of shares now worth over $3 billion would be no more than a few hundred thousand dollars, rather than well over $1 billion without this setup, according to the report.
The Huangs also set up several vehicles in 2016 known as grantor retained annuity trusts, or GRATs in a move similar to the ex-wife of Walmart’s co-founder, Audrey Walton who transferred about $200 million worth of shares to two GRATs.
The trusts had to eventually repay Walton the value of those shares with some modest interest, but if the value of the shares went up over had to be repaid the trusts could keep whatever was left over tax free.
The Huangs put just over three million Nvidia shares worth about $100 million (At that time) into their four GRATs. They’re now worth over $15 billion, with the family poised to avoid about $6 billion in estate taxes, the report read.
Yet another technique was to use their Jen Hsun & Lori Huang Foundation by donating shares of Nvidia that were worth about $330 million at the time. These are tax-deductible.
Since foundations have to annually donate to charities at least 5% of their total assets, the Huangs gave 84% of the money to a donor-advised fund which they own that are not required to actually give any money to charitable organizations and can pass on the fund’s control to heirs without estate taxes, saving the family another $800 million, according to the report.

Residents protest against former house owner and Muslim couple who purchased the property
A Muslim couple in India have been hounded out of their newly-purchased home by their Hindu neighbours who said they would not allow them to live there because of their religion.
Hindu residents of the posh TDI City – an upscale residential bloc in the northern city of Moradabad – began protesting on Tuesday night after news of the sale became public.
A video from the protest that has gone viral shows one of the residents Megha Arora saying that Dr Ashok Bajaj, a resident, had sold his house to a Muslim family without consulting them.
“We cannot tolerate a Muslim family living right in front of our local temple. This is also a question of the safety of our women,” she said.
“We want the sale to be revoked and are asking the administration to cancel the registration of the house in the name of its new owners. We cannot allow people from another faith to come and live here. We will not allow them to enter and continue to protest as long as they don’t go away,” she added.
Many of the residents also visited the district magistrate’s office to lodge a complaint. Outside, they shouted slogans against Dr Bajaj and the Muslim couple.

The protests have had their intended effect. On Friday, Dr Bajaj told the BBC that a resolution, mediated by the city’s elected representative, had been reached and the new Muslim owners would re-sell the house to a Hindu family already living in the housing society.
Dr Bajaj, who runs an eye hospital in the city and had lived in the society for more than six years, said he had sold the house to the Muslim couple who are both doctors and that their families had known each other for 40 years. The Muslim couple, he said, were no longer comfortable moving into the house.
He added that the furore over the sale was “uncalled for” and that he had not expected it to become national news.
The protest started after he introduced the Muslim couple to his neighbours as a gesture of goodwill.
The backlash to the sale of the house, he said, “has come out of nowhere” as there are other Muslim families already living in the colony and that “we had always had a good rapport with our neighbours”.
“The controversy is changing the fabric of the city. Our intention was not to create any kind of unrest with this transaction,” he said, adding that “there is no law” against this transaction.
The colony also did not have a residents’ association that would need to approve the sale, he said. “Now they have woken up to make it.”
This is not the first time Muslim residents have faced backlash in Moradabad for buying homes in a Hindu-majority area. In 2021, residents and Hindu hardline organisations had protested after two Muslim families had purchased houses from Hindus.

Discrimination against minority communities, especially Muslims, is common in many Indian cities where many housing societies insist on food habits such as vegetarianism to keep them out.
Muslims in states like Gujarat and Maharashtra have often said they are unable to buy or rent homes in Hindu neighbourhoods. A few years ago, a Bollywood actor Emraan Hashmi had made headlines for alleging he was refused a flat in Mumbai because of his Muslim faith.
Tanvir Aeijaz, professor of politics and public policy at Delhi University, says denying the Muslim couple the choice to buy the house they wanted is “discriminatory and completely unconstitutional”.
“It’s a violation of their fundamental and legal rights. This is a violation of a person’s right to equality and freedom and if such cases increase, they endanger the constitution of India.”
Prof Aeijaz says there are special rights to protect Dalits (formerly known as untouchables) and women who are considered vulnerable groups, “but how come there are no rights to protect Muslims who are the most vulnerable group in India”? he asks.

This incident has also resulted in a huge outrage in India with many taking to social media to express their anger.
“Welcome to #NewIndia,” comedian Akash Banerjee wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “A doctor sold his house to a fellow doctor… Why on earth would that lead to a massive protest/uproar in a posh housing society in Moradabad?” he asked.
“As a nation we always boast about unity in diversity. We should be ashamed about these incidents,” wrote John Brittas, an MP from the Communist Party of India (Marxist).
Those protesting against the couple “were not nameless, faceless individuals”, another user wrote on X. “They were people unafraid and unashamed of publicly displaying their bigotry and lsIamophobia.”
Critics say incidents of violence and discrimination against India’s Muslim community have grown in the past decade under the Hindu nationalist government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Anti-Muslim hate speech incidents have surged, with a majority reported from states ruled by the BJP – Moradabad is also located in the BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh. The BJP has consistently denied these claims.
Prof Aeijaz says the incident in Moradabad “shows that religious polarisation has sunk in, that it’s working at the ground level”.
But, he says he feels hopeful that things will change for the better.
“Hinduism is based on pluralism. Most people I meet understand that hate is against their religion. And that gives me hope.”

Any other PANs otherwise allotted should be listed in item no. 11 of the form, and the corresponding PAN card copies should be submitted for cancellation along with the form.
The PAN 2.0 is a comprehensive platform designed to facilitate all matters related to PAN and TAN, including applications, updates, corrections, Aadhaar-PAN linking, re-issuance requests, and online PAN validation. Under PAN 2.0, new PAN cards that will be issued to taxpayers will have an enhanced QR code for better data security. The ruling BJP on Thursday attacked the main opposition Congress party in Parliament. This followed an exposé by a consortium of European publications, published in a French outlet Mediapart, in which the BJP questioned the links between the Congress, its leadership and the US deep state.
What is deep state?
The term ‘Deep State’ refers to a secret and hierarchical network of members within American intelligence agencies, such as the FBI and CIA. These entities often conduct covert operations to destabilize democratically elected governments, thereby ensuring that US foreign policy interests are served. These individuals are deeply involved in financial institutions, industrial sectors as well as NGOs and media outlets.
The United States began its so-called “soft power” strategy in the late 1990s during the presidency of Bill Clinton. Along with then-First Lady Hillary Clinton, he enlisted billionaire hedge fund investor George Soros to fund a vast network of non-profits and later media organizations in countries of strategic importance to the US.
Indeed, Soros was a vocal supporter of Hillary Clinton during her campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2013.
In turn, Soros established a global network of NGOs which he funded, creating complex layers of hidden financial flows to obscure the true sources of these funds and provide a thin veil of legitimacy to his operations.
These NGOs often focused on human rights, poverty alleviation, education, and women and minority rights. Through these well-funded NGOs, the Democrats and the CIA could exercise power, wage bloodless wars, organize mass protests, and topple inconvenient leaders. This was the full power of the most powerful nation in the world being used illegally without regard for the sovereignty of other nations, creating chaos and anarchy at will.
India’s fight against deep state-funded NGOs
Since 2016, the Indian government has consistently cracked down on foreign-funded NGOs and other organizations.
According to a statement made by Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai in the Lok Sabha in 2022, between 2017 and 2021, the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) licenses of 6,677 NGOs were cancelled. Additionally, between 2011 and 2019, the Union Home Ministry canceled the registrations of more than 19,000 voluntary organisations.
However, George Soros’s Open Society Foundations, Pierre Omidyar’s Omidyar Network, and the Ford Foundation—founded by Henry Ford’s son—continue to send funds to India bypassing FCRA rules.
These three foundations have been pre-watched by the Government of India, meaning they can only donate if their funding is thoroughly vetted and approved.
In response to these restrictions, foundations have developed a new strategy: they fund intermediary organizations and create layers through which funds flow, thus avoiding scrutiny. This network of NGOs, funded directly or indirectly by these foundations, has two main objectives:
Supporting activities opposing the Government of India.
Sponsoring and funding media outlets critical of the Indian government.
The Big Three
1. Open Society Foundation: It is the “political philanthropy project” of billionaire hedge fund investor George Soros, as he himself describes it. The stated purpose of the Foundation is to “build vibrant and inclusive democracies whose governments are accountable to their people”. It is currently run by Soros’s son, Alexander Soros, who is now 94.
2. Ford Foundation: Founded in 1936 by Edsel Ford, son of famed carmaker Henry Ford, the Ford Foundation’s vision is “social justice—a world in which all individuals, communities, and peoples work toward the protection and full expression of their human rights; those are active participants in the decisions that affect them; they share equally in the society’s knowledge, wealth and resources and are free to achieve their full potential. The Foundation is led by a 16-member Board; darren There are walkers.
3. Omidyar Network: The foundation was founded by Pierre Omidyar, the French-born Iranian-American billionaire founder of eBay. He co-runs the foundation with his wife, Pamela Omidyar. The network describes itself as a “social change enterprise” that aims to “reimagine critical systems and the ideas that govern them to create more inclusive and equitable societies – not just a few For the benefit of people – all over the world.”
The goals and methods of these three foundations are similar, as we will learn further.

All three foundations provide fellowships and scholarships for students in India who wish to study abroad. These students are carefully selected and subsequently become part of a network of organizations, advocacy groups and NGOs that receive significant funding from the three foundations.
This process is similar to preaching. In line with their stated objectives, these students often become echo chambers for criticism of countries deemed “totalitarian” or “despotic” by those running the foundation.
George Soros’s speech at the Munich Security Conference on 16 February is a vivid example of this. In it he commented: “Adani is accused of stock manipulation and his stock collapsed like a house of cards. Modi is silent on the subject, but he will have to answer questions from foreign investors and in Parliament. This would significantly weaken Modi’s grip on India’s federal government and pave the way for pursuing much-needed institutional reforms. I may be naive, but I hope for a democratic revival in India.
There was a sharp reaction from the Indian government on this unexpected statement, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar described Soros as an “old, rich, capricious and dangerous billionaire”. The then Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani called Soros’ speech an “attack on India”.
Such reactions are not surprising, given that Soros has previously criticized what he sees as the American Deep State, as well as “totalitarian regimes” in countries such as Russia, China, Israel, and Hungary. He is also widely accused of using his wealth to fund organizations that promote protests and spread misinformation to influence regime change.
However, the Ford Foundation and the Omidyar Network are more discreet in their actions, although their activities in different countries are analogous to Soros’s activities.
In this context, it is not surprising that students and young professionals receiving fellowships from the Open Society Foundations and other such organizations consistently promote specific, well-defined narratives.
Why should Indians be worried?
This reporter reached out to NGO Monitor, an Israel-based research institute that fact-checks NGOs and their funders specifically in the context of the Arab-Israeli conflict. NGO Monitor has had special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council since 2013.
Speaking specifically about Soros and the methodology of the Open Society Foundations, a representative of the NGO Monitor (who wished to remain anonymous for security reasons) said: “He (Soros) has a very clear political philosophy – open society. He believes that the human being is most important and boundaries do not matter. When policy changes happen, people need to rise from the ground up and be given the tools to bring about that change. That’s why he funds education and universities—he believes change must come from the grassroots.”
The representative further said that there was clear evidence of Soros’ interference in the political situations of Ukraine, Russia, Hungary, Croatia and other countries of the Eastern Bloc. “Soros tried the same thing in Arab countries, but civil society there was not as developed, so his success was limited. For example, the Arab Spring turned into the Islamic Winter. NGOs played a major role in the Arab Spring and pushed the agenda to make headlines. But when you examine the work of the organizations funded by Soros, their commitment to democracy rings hollow. Why did none of these NGOs insist on greater participation of women in the movement? Why was there no discussion on women’s rights? This is because his real motive was to make headlines.
“The next generation will be the bureaucrats, journalists and policymakers who will implement ‘change’ according to Soros’s ideas. That is why he funds them from a young age and appoints them in his associated organizations. “He claims he funded efforts to remove former US President Donald Trump and supported Black Lives Matter protests,” the representative said.
Soros is also infamous for his role in “breaking the Bank of England” in 1992, when he shorted the British pound, and for his involvement in the 1997 Asian financial crisis, where his shortfall of the Thai baht led to the collapse of many Contributed to the downfall.
